Andrew and Sean

To a very special woman:

We can’t thank you enough for considering us as potential parents for your child. While it’s difficult to fully understand our whole lives by reading this profile, we hope to give you a sense of who we are, what our lives are like, and what life would be like if you give us the opportunity to become fathers to your little boy or girl. We have built a great life together and can’t wait to grow our lives even further with a child. We know your journey to this point has been incredibly brave, and we hope that we can be brave with you from this point forward.

Here’s Our Story

We met through an online dating website in 2013 and sparked an instant connection on our first date. Sean remembers texting his best friend to say he had just met the guy he was going to marry – and sure enough Andrew proposed about a year later! Surrounded with the love of close family and friends, we were married in 2015. It was one of the happiest days of our lives, and was a true celebration of our relationship. We make an incredible team with many things in common, but enough individuality to help us learn from each other and keep life interesting. We learn something new about each other almost every day, and try to have fun in anything we do. We know that these traits not only keep our relationship strong, but can also make us amazing dads. We’ve considered all options for starting a family, but quickly came to the conclusion that there was something so moving and powerful about adoption. We truly believe that going on this journey together, as birth parents and adoptive parents, is an experience that’s joyful and awe-inspiring.

Things that we love to do

There’s never a dull moment with us! We love to try new things and take ourselves out of our comfort zones. At home we cook new recipes and share them with family and friends. We enjoy a glass of wine after a long day, always from our favorite local wine and cheese shop. We share our evenings planning our next home improvement project, reading or watching TV, and of course walking our dogs. Because Andrew’s family lives nearby, there’s always some sort of family event that brings us together!  Traveling is one of our favorite things together, and we’ve explored places across the world (both the U.S. and throughout Europe, Asia and South America). While Andrew loves to plan the various sites to see, Sean takes particular interest in figuring out where we’ll eat and sleep!Introducing Sean

I am originally from upstate New York, and moved to Washington, D.C. in 2005 when I began attending The George Washington University on a music scholarship. I received both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Information Technology from GWU. I fell in love with the D.C. area and haven’t left since! I’ve always had a passion for technology. In high school I was the go-to person to fix a neighbor’s computer or build a website for a local small business. I’m always excited for the latest gadget, and at work I lead a team of high-tech healthcare IT professionals who build systems and technology for patients with life-threatening diseases. There’s nothing I love more than entertaining for friends and family, but I have a particular interest in the art of making craft cocktails. My father, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in 2005, gave me his passion for music. I’m a great singer (in my opinion, at least!) and I also love to play the trumpet. Aside from music, I enjoy running and staying fit.Introducing Andrew

I was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area and I attended Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. where I majored in finance and economics. A job opportunity brought me back to D.C., and my company sent me to the University of Maryland to earn my Master’s in Business Administration. For work, I manage a procurement organization for a large healthcare company based in London and get to work with many countries. I’m also able to work from home often and have a flexible schedule.Outside of work, I love to be as social as possible and enjoy anything outdoors. I take pride in making sure our home is warm and welcoming, and I love to make my design ideas a reality. I’m a sucker for reality TV, but I also enjoy staying up on current events, reading the news, and love politics. There’s nothing better than waking up as the sun rises and enjoying a cup of coffee with my favorite book!Where we live

We’ve fallen in love with our neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia. It’s less than 10 minutes from Washington D.C. with some of the best schools in the area and a variety of parks, pools, and trails. Arlington has all the offerings of an inclusive, diverse urban environment with a small town feel. It’s an hour from mountains, lakes or beaches, all of which provide a great escape. We picked Arlington because we think it’s an ideal place to raise a family, with many opportunities for kids to explore their passions and interests. Our Cape Cod-style house has tons of character and charm. We live on a kid-friendly cul-de-sac with plenty of space for toys and playtime with the other neighborhood kids!

Meet the furry loves of our lives

We have two of the best rescue dogs anyone could ask for! Bridget was rescued by Andrew 10 years ago and has been at his side ever since. Together, we rescued our second dog, Teddy, sight-unseen. Bridget and Teddy became fast friends and are two of the most cuddly and loving dogs you’ll meet. Both Beagle mixes, they love being with people just as much as they like to eat!

The People We Love – Our Family

Sean’s mom, a second grade teacher, lives in upstate New York and always looks forward to escaping the cold winters to come visit. Sean’s brother attends college in Connecticut and his sister and nephew live in Vermont. The star of Sean’s family is his 94-year old grandma, who is the center of attention on any dance floor!

Andrew’s dad is a mechanical engineer, and his mom is a super-dedicated first grade teacher. They live nearby and can’t wait to dote on another grandbaby. His older brother and family are also local, while Andrew’s younger sister and family live south of us in Richmond. There will be lots of cousins to help show the ropes to our little one!

We have a close group of friends near and far, and have found joy in watching many of them begin families of their own. Planning weekend trips to see friends in other cities is equally fun as random get-togethers with nearby friends and neighbors. They can’t wait to welcome your child into the group!

Our Faith – spirituality and faith are very important to us

We searched for a church that was open and accepting of us and the family we dream of building, and discovered Foundry United Methodist Church. Foundry’s welcome message – spoken at the start of every service – is an inspiration for us: We welcome you – no matter where you come from or where you go, no matter what you believe or doubt, no matter what you feel or don’t feel, and no matter who you love. Come just as you are to be met by our God who loves you, who knows you by name, and who wants to have an ever closer relationship with you.”Our Promise to You

We will provide a loving, and supportive home where a child can grow to their full potential. We will always put their needs ahead of our own, and make sure we nurture, guide, and support them in pursuing their dreams. We are grateful for the example of our own parents, who have loved and supported us unconditionally, and we will do the same for our children. We live by a quote from St. Francis de Sales, who says “Be who you are, and be that well.” In that spirit, our promise to you is that we will teach and demonstrate values that will help your child become the best person they can be. Through good and bad, ups and downs, we promise to always be their source of strength.

One Last Thank You

We’re so grateful that you took the time to learn more about who we are and the parents we strive to become. We feel incredibly blessed to be considered as fathers to your child and can’t wait for the opportunity to learn more about you, your journey, and hopefully our new journey together.
