Hello! We are Anna & Donovan from Southern California!
We are so excited to begin this journey! We can’t even imagine what you’re going through right now and the difficulty of the path that has brought you to this moment. While we haven’t met you yet, we know that you are strong, loving, and selfless, or you wouldn’t be reading this right now. We know how hard it is to get to know someone from a piece of paper, but we’re hoping that this profile at least gives you a glimpse into who we are and the type of parents we will be. To start with, why are we choosing adoption? We are unable to have children naturally, but we have prepared for years to be ready to start a family – ensuring we have a home with plenty of room in a great community, financial security, career stability, and a rock-solid relationship and support system. Without a child with which to share all of our love and all that life has to offer, we feel incomplete and the ache of something missing. We feel so very blessed to have the opportunity to start our family through adoption and that we may have found our birth mother in you. We believe that there are times in all of our lives in which certain things are meant to be and that lives intersect for a reason. We very much hope that this is one of those times and that through these pages you are able to see why we are the right adoptive parents for you. Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and for considering us as your adoptive parents!
About Us: We both grew up in South Dakota, which definitely shaped a part of who we are. It gave us a small-town foundation and a strong work ethic and contributed to our values. Our lives crossed paths in Anna’s hometown, which is how the story of us began. We worked together at the local movie theater and were set up by one of our coworkers to attend Anna’s prom together. From there, a friendship blossomed and evolved into a relationship. When it was time for Anna to go off to college on the East Coast, we realized we were in love and chose to give a long-distance relationship a try. While it had its challenges, it made our relationship stronger and validated that we were meant to be together. After college, Donovan proposed to Anna in a gazebo in a beautiful rose garden on a perfect summer day in his hometown. A couple of years after our wedding, we were ready for a new adventure and all the benefits that a more metropolitan area could bring, so we moved to California. We’ve been married for 17 years, and we chose to renew our vows in Vatican City for our 10-year anniversary. Not only are we best friends, but we’re a team – equal partners. Our relationship thrives on unconditional love, support, trust, communication, teamwork and collaboration, mutual respect, faith, and laughter.
We love spending time together while enjoying things such as:
- Being foodies – whether it’s being creative in the kitchen, trying a new cuisine, experiencing a chef’s tasting menu, or doing our own “Chopped” challenges at home with friends
- Experiencing the arts and sciences – especially visiting museums and galleries and attending live dance, theater, concerts, and events
- Traveling – there’s nothing like experiencing adventures, history, and different cultures all over the US and abroad to help you appreciate the world around you and your own lives
- Reading books out loud – complete with using different voices for each character and sound effects to make the story more immersive
- Sharing family time – whether it’s going for walks, hanging out on the beach, checking out a farmers’ market or street fair, playing games, watching movies, enjoying snuggles, or just talking about our day
By Donovan: I grew up on the outskirts of a small town, spending the majority of my childhood in an even smaller lakeside community. This was well before the days of the Internet and gaming systems, allowing me to spend a significant amount of time exploring the great outdoors, fishing, and going on “walkabouts” with my best friend Max. My parents owned a movie theatre and my grandparents owned a bowling alley, allowing me to get involved in sports at an early age and fuel my imagination by watching all the latest age-appropriate creations coming out of Hollywood. It was a fun childhood, continually filled with new experiences. After I graduated high school, I decided to get into the working world as fast as possible so I elected to attend a technical college, graduating with an AAS degree in computer systems technology. Today I work as the Sr. Director of Marketing for a small, high tech company. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, running, gardening, creating mobile apps, painting, and writing. I can’t wait to share my creative side, love for family, and adventurous spirit with our new child.
More About Donovan, by Anna: I wouldn’t want to be on this journey through life with anyone but Donovan. He is my soulmate and my rock. While we complement each other so well as a couple, he appreciates our need to be individuals as well, and we are able to respect and support each other’s individuality. Donovan is a blessing to everyone in his life and a bright light in the life of everyone he meets. In addition, he is intelligent, supportive, creative, full of surprises, and doesn’t take himself too seriously. I know that he’ll make a wonderful father because he loves unconditionally, puts others before himself, takes care of others, is compassionate, and is a great role model and mentor.
Fun Facts About Donovan:
- At age 8, I bowled a 244, which was published in the YABA magazine
- Took first place in South Dakota’s statewide VICA competition for extemporaneous speaking
- Published poet in two National Library of Poetry anthologies
Meet Anna, by Anna: I grew up in a small town, and my childhood was full of time with family, friends, academics, and activities ranging from fishing to dance, theater, and oral interp to gifted camps, science olympiads, and math competitions. My parents always encouraged me to make the most of what was available to me, to branch out and try new things, to pursue whatever interested me, to work hard, to grow into my own, and to aim for the stars. As far as hobbies go, my primary hobby is being a pro-am ballroom dancer, which I enjoy because it is athletic, competitive, artistic, and a beautiful way to express myself. In addition to dancing, I’m currently learning to play the guitar, and I enjoy my daily workout routines and experimenting in the kitchen. I work at a sports technology company as part of the management team. I love that my job gives me the opportunity to work with engineering as well as all other departments in the company. My office is only 10 minutes from home, and I have the option to have flexible hours and the ability to work from home when needed. I look forward to being a mother so I can help our future child find his or her own passions, learn to think for himself or herself and grow into a well-rounded, happy young adult with a positive self-image and a path forward into adulthood.
More About Anna, by Donovan: Anna is one of the most loving, smart, and driven people I have had the great fortune to know. Anna is very outgoing, she loves to read stories aloud, and she enjoys sharing new experiences. These are just a couple of the many qualities that will make Anna an outstanding mother. I have no doubt she will pour every ounce of energy and love of her being into welcoming a new bundle of joy into our lives. I can’t wait for us to share the rest of our years, together, as a family.
Fun Facts About Anna:
- Graduated from Yale University
- Attended the bell ringing at the NYSE for the IPO of the last company I worked at
- Was on the Board of Directors for our area community theater
Our Family & Friends
Our Loved Ones: Our family and friends are a big part of our lives and are a wonderful support system. They couldn’t be more excited about a new baby in the family! Our future child will be lucky enough to have 6 grandparents and 2 great-grandmothers. Donovan’s mom and stepdad and his dad and stepmom live in his hometown. Anna’s parents live in her hometown. Not only do they all provide a wealth of wisdom, but they also are warm, make everyone feel loved, and have a generosity of spirit. He or she will also have a close-knit group of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Donovan has a younger brother who lives with his fiancé in Georgia, and he also has a younger sister who lives in England with her boyfriend. In addition, Anna has a younger brother and a sister-in-law who live in the St. Paul, MN area. We are each other’s cheerleaders and confidants and keep each other grounded. In addition, Anna’s brother has three great kids that are spunky, creative, and full of curiosity. In addition to immediate family, our child will also have several great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins-once-removed. And let’s not forget our close friends that come from a variety of backgrounds and professions, many of which have kids of their own. One of Anna’s best friends even has two adopted children. We love our friends like family, and we’re always there for each other – whether it’s swapping anecdotes and advice or celebrating special occasions. Although both family and friends are spread out geographically, we do see each other as often as we can, but at least for holidays, family reunions, and vacations. (It’s a great reason to travel to different places!)
Meet Alastair, our Dog: Alastair is a West Highland White Terrier and he is personality plus! He loves people, including both adults and kids of all ages, and they take to him quickly as well. He can even get the grumpiest passerby to smile. In addition to making new friends, he loves going for car rides, walks, exploring new places, playing on the beach, hanging out in our backyard, and snuggling.

In Closing: We know that we will not be raising just a son or daughter but also someone’s future spouse, someone’s future parent, someone’s future colleague, someone’s future neighbor, and a future contributing member of society. While we couldn’t be more excited about that journey, it’s a big responsibility, and we don’t take that lightly. We trust that our profile has given you a sense of who we are and the type of parents we will be. Thank you again for considering us as your adoptive parents! We hope that you can see that our lives have intersected for a reason, and we can’t wait to meet you! We will be praying for you and keeping you in our thoughts.
