Hello! We are Brian and Amira.
Excitement is an understatement with respect to how we feel about becoming parents. We are very grateful for the opportunity to tell you a little about us, but more importantly, we are so thankful for your selfless and courageous decision that may enable us to become parents. We met at work 8 years ago. We were both working for a local Fire Department and were on an emergency call together the first time that we saw each other. A few weeks after that we ended up working at the same fire station and our relationship began to grow. After our first date, Brian knew we would get married. Two years later, Brian proposed on Amira’s Birthday and we decided to get married in our backyard. We did a backyard makeover for the wedding and the event was beautiful! We cherish that special memory every time we step outside. We love to laugh, love adventure, and just love being together. Whether that be watching a movie, taking the dog for a walk, running errands, working on the house or going on a road trip, we try to live life to its fullest. We can’t wait to continue our adventures with children.
Meet my wife, Amira.
Amira was born and raised throughout the Hawaiian Islands and is one of five children. She grew up playing soccer, enjoying the beach and camping with her family. When I first saw Amira, I was stepping out of the fire engine on a medical call. She was beautiful and took my breath away. I was in awe at how much compassion she had for this patient who was a complete stranger and what he was going through. This is one of her greatest qualities: whether it be family or a stranger, Amira has a heart of gold! Amira moved from Hawaii to San Diego for college and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree. After college, she moved in with her brother to help raise her two nieces from birth to 5 years old. Amira’s passion around kids is incredible! Her interaction with our nieces and nephews is just so natural, they love when Aunty Mimi comes to visit. She will make the best Mom! She has so much experience around children. One of her previous jobs was a teacher for babies & toddlers at Gymboree Play & Music. Amira now works as an office manager for a group of ER Physicians and has the flexibility of working part-time and from home which allows us to spend more time together. Amira is an independent woman. I can be at work for a 24 hour shift and she takes care of everything while I’m gone. This kind of partnership makes me feel confident that we will be strong parents together.
Other Fun facts about Amira:
- She plays the ukulele
- Has a major sweet tooth
- Loves to play card games.
- Traveled to Australia & Mexico on mission trips
- Loves Crafting and DIY Projects
- Great sense of humor
Meet my husband, Brian.
Brian was born and raised in Southern California. He is the most thoughtful person that I know and he is always anticipating others needs. I love watching him interact and play with my nieces, nephews, and with our friends’ children. He really tunes in and gets them (I think this is because he is still a kid at heart). We were camping in the mountains last summer when Brian and Gavin (our friend’s 3-year-old boy) turned a camping chair and a stick into jet skis. They were in their own world, having so much fun together. Brian is mechanical and can fix anything! He gets this knowledge from his dad, grandpas and great uncle. They spent quality time with him while he was growing up and taught him all about cars, construction, electrical and plumbing. Brian will be a great father! He’s not scared of changing diapers or getting spit up on. Thanks to being a Firefighter for over 13 years, he is very calm and doesn’t get worked up during stressful situations. He has so much love to give and so much knowledge to teach. I’ve seen him show kids how to ride a dirt bike, how to use a water balloon sling shot, how to wake surf, etc. He has so much patience and is such a great teacher. I am a better person because of Brian.
Other Fun Facts about Brian:
- He loves to BBQ
- He hiked Mt. Whitney
- Has an Associates degree in Fire Science
- Super Creative & can build anything
- Has repelled out of a helicopter to fight wildland fires
- He restored his moms ’65 Mustang and wins trophies at car shows
Brian’s parents have been married for 37 years and live only a mile from us. They are the most kind, generous and hard working people. He grew up going on many summer vacations traveling in their motor home & has the best memories from those trips. Brian is an only child, but grew up with some very close friends that he considers family and still gets together with often. They would be like aunts and uncles to our kids.
Amira has two brothers and two sisters and has 4 nieces and 2 nephews! We all get along well and have so much fun when we are all together. Her mom lives in the studio attached to our garage. It is really nice having her close especially on days when Brian is working. Her dad lost a short battle with Leukemia in 2007. He would have loved Brian! They have the same work ethic, creativity, and ability to build things.
We live in a quiet neighborhood within minutes of hiking, biking, a gorgeous lake, and the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Over the last several years we have remodeled and added on to our 1950s home. We have done most of the renovation and construction ourselves and it has been a labor of love! We have had our future family in mind while customizing this home. We enjoy entertaining and love backyard BBQs with family, friends and neighbors. Our favorite time of day is right before sunset, we call it our “golden hour.” Did we mention that we got married at our house? We had our friends and family members over for an intimate backyard ceremony and celebration! Saying “home is where the heart is” rings true for us. We love our home, neighborhood and our small town.
Dozer is our 8 year old boxer who still acts like a puppy. Other names we call him are Dozey, The Doz, Wiggle Butt or Goofy. He is the sweetest, most gentle dog we have ever met. Dozer loves kids, the beach, the snow and any open field to run in. He goes on most of our trips with us, including boat trips at the lake. When you ask him if he wants to go on a walk, he gets so excited! And if you keep saying the word “walk,” he’ll look at you tilting his head back and forth. It’s adorable!
Honu is our 5 year old desert tortoise that we rescued when he was only 5 days old! We chose the name Honu because in Hawaiian it means sea turtle. He lives in a large tortoise enclosure in the backyard but we like to let him loose, and we love watching him eat and cruise around. Dozer and Honu get along very well and if we can’t find Honu (he moves around quicker than you’d think) we ask Dozer where he went and he will sniff around and lead us to him. When Honu was a baby, we took a picture of him and Dozer that looked like they were kissing, it somehow went viral on someone’s Instagram page and got nearly 100,000 likes!
