Hi there! We’re Mike, Caroline, and our son, Bo, from beautiful Alexandria, Virginia. We appreciate you learning a bit about us and hope this is just the start of a life long conversation! We are a joyful, adventurous couple who love exploring from our own backyard to the Rocky Mountains. As a couple, we love running around DC's monuments and enjoying its diverse food scene but also value time spent outdoors with family in Colorado. As parents, whether we are headed into the city to watch a hockey game or hiking trails in Denver, we love to show our son, Bo, the amazing things that both city and mountain life have to offer.

When we were first dating, we separately had interests in adoption and as we got to know each other better realized how compatible our visions were for our family. Caroline's great-grandmother was a social worker who placed many of the adults in her life today! Mike's family hoped to adopt but, as a military family, was sent on a deployment that impacted their plans.

Music brought us together, but exploring the world around us made us a team. As friends first, we would regularly bump into each other at friend's birthday parties or dinners but really connected through our love of live music. In our early days of dating, we would go see anyone from Florence and the Machine to Caroline's uncle's bluegrass band. The popularity of the artist didn't matter as we appreciated how some shows brought us to areas of our city that we hadn't yet explored. Our walking date nights to shows taught us how we would want to show our children the world one day. Exploring a city on foot, showed us places we would have never seen, music we would have never heard and some of our favorite foods that we wouldn't have tried otherwise.

As someone who was not a strong student growing up, I have grown into an adult who is a life long learner. I regularly have a book on hand or am learning a new skill. This lead me into a consulting career where I was regularly dropped into new environments to observe different organizations. When I became a mom, it opened up a whole new world of things to learn and do. After a decade-long career, I recently decided to stay home full time. The transition has been more rewarding than I ever imagined. I absolutely love our days filled with trips to local farms, baking cookies or building forts in our living room to play in. Although these days may not seem as complex, the daily efforts required for raising a compassionate and aware child is something I don't take lightly. It has been the most fulfilling role of my life! It would be the greatest privilege to someday welcome a second child into our home and raise them with as much care, compassion and intention.

She’s the kind of person who makes everyone feel like a friend. Caroline is community-driven and always looking for new ways to get involved. She has a gift for making a large city feel small through genuine connection. From baking cookies for neighbors to hosting weekly game nights, she loves meeting new people. An active member of our town’s running club and a fitness instructor, she values staying active and connecting with others along the way. Caroline also has a passion for animals. We have welcomed two wonderful dogs into our family over the course of our relationship through the SPCA. She also loves to read. Always lending a book to a friend, she has enjoyed sharing this love of literature with Bo by taking him to weekly library story times and reading him is favorite books before bed.

I take joy in finding ways to make the most mundane experiences exciting, which has come in handy during my career in accounting. I spent the first ten years of my career in a fast paced environment, working long hours with large teams to meet deadlines. As our family took shape, I’m proud to have found a career in the energy industry that offers both meaningful work and more time to dedicate to family. Running the accounting for international divisions in South America, Europe, and Asia allows me to learn something new each day and gain insight into different cultures. That global perspective has shaped how I approach my work and deepened my curiosity about others, a value I hope to pass on as a father. In addition, I continue to take pride in making the mundane fun, whether that's doing a puzzle with Bo for the 8th time in a row or making up songs on his toy guitar.

Mike finds joy in life’s simple moments and is happiest when making those around him smile. Mike is a constant optimist who stays level-headed even in stressful situations. He’s always up for a game night or hosting friends for football, no matter how busy life gets. That same enthusiasm shines in his role as a dad as he’s always finding new parks to explore with Bo and takes pride in sharing his interests, whether it’s kicking a new soccer ball or playing with trucks together. He finds joy in life’s simple moments and loves asking everyone their favorite part of the day at dinner.

He’s proud of his work and ability to provide, but even more grateful for the time it allows him to focus on family. Mike loves being outdoors and is an avid snowboarder, but is just as content watching football at home and always makes sure everyone around him is having a good time. For work, Wyatt is a hospital physician, which means his time is freeing up now that he is done with the grueling schooling. It’s common for him to work 7 days and then have 7 days completely off. Gabe is an organizational psychologist who works from home for a leadership consulting firm and has his own management consulting engagements on the side. He enjoys having control of his schedule and having the flexibility to tend to home issues throughout the day.

Bo is a caring, curious little boy whose big heart and love for others will make him an incredible big brother. Bo is three years old and is the ultimate cuddler. Often described by his teachers as the most compassionate kid in class, Bo is the first on the scene to lend a hand if someone trips and falls. He loves to read and often asks to stay up past his bedtime for another Curious George story. His eagerness to share will make Bo a great older brother and very engaged with his new younger sibling.

We love living close to Washington DC! Our home is on a quiet cul-de-sac with a park at the end of our street. It's a safe place for kids to play and have fun on their ride-on toys and bicycles. Our neighbors are our friends! They all have growing families and take pride in sharing everything from vegetables in their gardens to hand-me-down clothes as everyone grows. Our home has plenty of room for kids with big bright windows and the perfect spot for a Christmas tree. This inviting space includes an awesome kitchen for pancake breakfasts, a family room for watching movies and a basement playroom filled with toys. While we live minutes from DC, our neighborhood is in a quiet cozy town that loves to make a celebration out of the little things. From St. Patrick's Day to Presidents Day, there is a parade down Main Street, complete with police motorcycles (Bo’s favorite) and a marching band.

Our dog Bailey is the sweetest and loves snuggling on the couch with the family. She’s often found tucked under a blanket waiting for everyone to join her. The neighborhood kids adore her because she’s so gentle and great with children.

Our weekends are filled with community, good food, and simple adventures, everything from farmers markets to family football Sundays. Our town keeps us busy with so many fun things to do! On weekends, local farmers set up in the town square, and we love visiting the butcher or fish vendor to pick out something special for Saturday dinner. The nearby bookstore hosts a children’s story time after the market, which has become a favorite neighborhood outing. We’re also part of our town’s running club and enjoy exploring new parts of our neighborhood together. Along the way, we’ve discovered falafel trucks, a hidden monument, and our favorite coffee shop. Sundays often mean friends, pizza, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. Caroline and Mike even started a family Fantasy Football League, a fun way to compete and stay connected with parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Carolines Side: Caroline’s large family (siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) live a few hours away, and while we don’t see them often, we stay connected through frequent calls and FaceTime. Holidays with her family are especially meaningful, filled with traditions spanning three generations. Their Christmas Eve dance party is a highlight for everyone from her grandfather to Bo, dancing to classic holiday tunes. Caroline’s childhood friends are also a big part of our lives, and she was recently honored to become the godmother of her best friend’s child.

Mike’s Side: Mike’s parents live close by and love planning crafts and farm visits with Bo. They’re already excited to share those same special moments with our future child. His extended family is in Denver, and we look forward to our annual visit out west for hiking, biking, and snowboarding. With 40 first cousins and plenty of little ones, Bo always has someone to play with.

We come from very different backgrounds which has informed our approach to parenting. Mike grew up around DC and had a faster paced upbringing. Alternatively, Caroline was raised in a small community outside of city life. We see a large part of our job as parents as introducing our children to the amazing aspects of both and everything in between. We love taking the subway into the city and seeing a sports game or museum but also want our children to appreciate time on Caroline's family farm or in the Rocky Mountains just as much. As they grow, we hope our children come to appreciate the diverse array of cultures and perspectives in their world as much as we have. We care deeply about our neighbors and our community and plan to raise our to children to have a similar community-centered outlook. Caroline and Bo bake fresh bread each week for our neighborhood food pantry and are always looking for new ways to give back and stay involved in the town we love.

We would be thrilled to have your child join our family and would want to celebrate their heritage and embrace all of the wonderful things about you that make up who they are. Although we have not met, I can assure you our top priority would be being the greatest supporter in your child's dreams, their biggest cheerleader at sports games and a shoulder to cry on in tough times. We would not shy away from difficult conversations and remind them regularly how much they were loved in this decision. We hope we have the opportunity to speak, and that this is just the beginning of the lifelong conversation.
