Hello! We are Chris and James from the beach community of Oxnard, California. Our hearts and home are full of joy, laughs and a whole lot of love, which is why we are thrilled to grow our family through adoption. Though we can only imagine this is one of the most difficult decisions you will ever make, we hope to make it a decision you will treasure forevermore.
We are incredibly grateful that you would consider us as prospective parents and want to thank you for taking the time to get to know us.
Getting to Know Us: We met in 2010 in college. We spotted each other as we crossed paths from a distance, locked eyes, and nearly broke our necks trying to catch one last glance. This continued for a few days until we found ourselves at Student Union building where we finally worked up the courage to formally introduce ourselves and have been together ever since. After graduation, our careers took us to southern California where we established new roots in the city of Oxnard. Now husbands and homeowners, we spend our free time finding ways to stay active and are focused on small home projects.
Our hobbies vary wildly, which always makes it interesting when we involve each other in a new activity. Chris is into high intensity Spikeballs games on the beach, but also thrives in a quiet room during a challenging Chess match. James is a fan of roller blading, lifting weights and singing, but his guilty pleasure is reading about theories on the Marvel Universe.
I grew up as the oldest child in a large blended family with two brothers and two sisters. From jumping off the furniture with my brothers or playing competitive games of Monopoly with my sisters and all the shenanigans in between, there was never a dull moment. I can’t imagine having grown up without siblings, which is why I want to adopt at least two kids.
Nowadays, I’m still very much a kid at heart. Training parkour tricks, rock climbing and tennis are some of my favorite physical activities. When I’m resting, I could be crocheting a blanket (self-taught) or playing online video games with my friends and siblings now that we’re all in different states.
I grew up in Sanford, North Carolina. My childhood was filled with family. My mother is very close with her 5 siblings, especially her sisters. We would spend almost every weekend doing family cookouts, shopping, and church was a major staple growing up. I love to sing and that passion was ignited in church. I mainly love writing RnB and Pop music. I was even in a boyband for bit when we first moved to California.
I currently manage a health and wellness coliving facility, where I discovered my love for yoga and meditation. I have also been working on a solo album that I hope to have completed by the top of the coming year.
We are fortunate to live in the historical district of Oxnard, California. We’re within walking distance to most of our activities. There is the beach, tennis center, rock climbing gym, performing arts center and wonderful schools all within ten minutes. Our home is an updated 1950’s mid century 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom ranch that sports a large back lot with a Valencia orange tree that we harvest all year-round. Our front patio is an enclosed, private courtyard with beautiful purple wisteria branches reaching over the pergola. And lastly, a portion of our front yard has been converted into a putting green— can you say baby golf clubs? We entertain and grill in the front courtyard, work out in our private gym and yoga studio, spend time reading in the formal living room, play video games in the family room, and have game nights in the dining room.
We cannot wait to start our family and really grow into the space.
Hoshi, which means Star in Japanese, was born the runt of the litter. She’s an eleven year-old Siberian Husky that weighs just under 50lbs. She’s the perfect size for snuggling and loves to be held, give kisses and lay in the sun spot coming through a window. Her commands are in Japanese, but she does know some life-saving English commands like “stay.” Oh, and she trots like a show horse during walks. We always get compliments that her prance is so graceful.
Our beautifully blended family sarted when Chris’ grandparents migrated from Ecuador; he is the oldest of five siblings and James is an only child. The siblings are a brother and sister that live in Florida, the other sister in Georgia and the other brother in Japan. James is closest to his Mother who is retired. Both sets of our parents are still in North Carolina. Even though we are so far apart we like to make a trip back each year and in addition to our annual family trip. Our family also extends to our group of friends here in California who encourage us to achieve our goals and support us unconditionally.
We are really excited and grateful for the opportunity to become parents. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us and considering us as adoptive parents for your child.
