Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know a little about who we are as a family. We understand that adoption is a big decision and would like to give you some comfort and assurance during this process. After Asher was born in 2016, we were very eager to have more children, but after many failed attempts, we knew we wanted to grow our family through adoption.
Hello from Washington State!
Getting to Know Us
In some ways, we have known each other our entire lives. Chris’ family lived next door to Sarah’s family and attended the same church. Chris was best friends with Sarah’s older brother, but never noticed Sarah as more than a friend until we were older. We finally decided to start dating in our 20’s, and a year later, we were married in 2012.
Our Journey With Adoption
We have always wanted children, but early on in our marriage we were heartbroken to learn this would not happen naturally. We struggled with infertility and tried multiple procedures over the course of a few years. We were fortunate to adopt a frozen embryo and were so excited to finally be having a baby. Asher has been our miracle baby and we are so excited to welcome another miracle into our family through adoption.
We really enjoy spending time together. We go to baseball games, take trips to the zoo, go kayaking and like finding parks with water or beaches so Asher can throw rocks in the water. We vacation a couple times a year and these have included, spring training in Arizona, trips to Seaworld and the San Diego Zoo, and we always make an annual trek with Sarah’s family to Eastern Oregon for some fun and relaxation in the sun. We enjoy being outside in the yard doing anything around the house. Chris owns a construction company so inevitably there is always a project going on and Asher gets involved with his tools as well. Thankfully, Sarah has great ideas and a fine sense of style which is needed when living with a couple of guys!
Meet Sarah, by Chris
When we were 22 and 24 years old, Sarah’s brother was injured and while I spent time with my best friend, I also had the opportunity to be around Sarah and to get to know her more. Her wonderful smile and lively personality caught my attention. She always seemed to be laughing and enjoying the people around her. One evening as Sarah was making dinner and we were talking, I realized in that moment I wanted to marry her. When she said yes to marrying me I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to start a family with her because I had seen the love and devotion she had toward children and I knew she would be the most wonderful mother. Since that day I have fallen in love with her more and more. Sarah is beautiful, gentle and very caring. She has a calm demeanor and a wonderful smile. Her sense of humor is great, and she has a quick wit. Before we were married, and to this day, Sarah has always loved children and never misses an opportunity to care for them. It was so wonderful to finally see her with our son. She’s a wonderful wife and the best mother anyone could ask for. The love and care she gives is a wonderful thing to see. When she isn’t caring for Asher and I, she can be found in the garden or making dinner. I know she cant wait to share her hugs and kisses with Asher and our future child.
Meet Chris, by Sarah
Although Chris and I have known each other our entire lives, it wasn’t until after high school I started to see him more in a romantic way. I looked forward to being with him every chance I had. His quirky sense of humor and devotedness were just a couple of the things that captured my heart. On a chilly day in February we went for a dinner cruise in Seattle, Washington, and that is where he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Chris is always making sure I am taken care of and that I have what I need. Being his wife has far exceeded my expectations about marriage. He is also an awesome dad to our son and loves spending time with us. He is a loving husband, is very caring and selfless. Chris owns a construction company and enjoys building anything, anytime he can. He loves to wear his tool belt as much as possible and get his hands dirty, which means he is constantly working on some project at our house. He often brings home his tractor and let’s Asher ride on it with him in the evenings. I know he will continue to be an amazing father and husband.
Asher is a very energetic toddler who loves being with his cousins and friends. He likes a kinds of tractors and cars and is always exploring and learning new things every day. One of Asher’s first words was “dog”, so of course we ended up adopting Shiloh for him when he was only 1 year old. The first time we heard Asher’s heartbeat we were ecstatic and at our 20 week ultrasound, we found out we were having a boy! After further review of the ultrasounds, Asher was diagnosed with CDH (congenital diaphragmatic hernia) and cleft lip and palette. It was a very hard thing to hear. We were over the moon that we were having a baby, but this was definitely one of the toughest times we had been through as a married couple. We spent the first 4 months in the hospital with him. Asher has had 4 surgeries so far, with a few more scheduled in the next several years, but that hasn’t slowed him (or us!) down in the least. Asher’s strength and determination inspire us, and we know that he will be a proud big brother to his future baby brother or sister.
Meet Our Family and Friends
We both grew up in large families. Chris is one of eight siblings and Sarah is one of eleven. We are both lucky to live within a mile of our parents and many of our siblings and their families. This makes it great for getting together for birthdays, holidays or just on a nice evening. There are always a lot of aunts, uncles and cousins around whatever the event is. For Asher, it’s always exciting to go to Grandpa and Grandma’s house. Both of our families, as well as many of our friends and family members, are a part of the same church. Our faith is important to us and help us stay grounded through life’s many ups and downs.
We own a house on five acres in Washington State, so its the perfect place to grow up. The house sits on top of a hill and we have a barn as well. The large back yard is a favorite for Asher and all of the kids in the neighborhood. Anytime they are over, they want to run down the big hill. We have a nice spot in back for campfires and always have a stash of marshmallows and chocolate for S’mores. When you pull in the driveway it feels like entering another world. People who walk into the yard are amazed that such a great house and property are hidden behind the tree line. We love where we live, and have plans for expanding the house to continue making the whole property a place where kids love to explore and play.
Shiloh is a 2 year old border collie/lab mix and was rescued from a shelter in Texas. Chris and Asher’s love for dogs was the main reason we adopted her. She has grown up around our son and his friends, so she is very friendly with children. She loves getting in the water, running around the yard with Asher, and sleeping under Chris’ desk when he is working.
We are very excited about growing our family through adoption. We see children as such a precious gift. We look forward to every day and all of the new and wonderful things they will learn. Whether playing in the back yard, a trip to the beach, or vacationing in an exotic destination, their curiosity and enthusiasm is such a pleasure and privilege to watch and nurture. Thank you for considering us and taking the time to get to know us a little. As parents we promise that your child will grow up in a happy and well balanced environment. We will surround them with lots of love, happiness and snuggles. We would be honored if you chose us to be parents to your child.
