Hi! We are Erin and Dave from Los Angeles, California. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We appreciate that you are in the process of making a difficult decision, and we hope to be a part of this important journey. We’d be thrilled to be the ones to provide your child with a home full of warmth, laughter, and love. We’ve always dreamt of starting a family and sharing our love for cooking big meals, playing elaborate board games, and going on adventures throughout California.
Dear Birth Mother...
Why We Are Adopting
Erin’s mom works for St. Joseph’s Children’s home, an organization in Kentucky that helps place kids with adoptive families. Because, of this, Erin grew up with a deep respect and appreciation for adoption, something she’s shared with Dave. So when we were told that we likely couldn’t conceive on our own, the choice of how to start a family felt clear and obvious.
We love this community and view adoption as a beautiful and unique way to become parents.
We met in 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts through work. We were both apprehensive to start a workplace romance so we tried very hard to just play it cool at first. But as we got closer as friends, there was no denying it, and we quickly fell very much in love. After a few months of dating, Erin moved to Los Angeles to pursue a writing career with Dave not far behind. We quickly moved in together and have been inseparable ever since. 10 years later, we were married in Kentucky at Erin’s family lake house. We love our life in Los Angeles where we take advantage of our sunny days by spending time outdoors together, but we also love to travel and make several trips home to see our families every year.
What We Do for Fun
As a couple there are many hobbies that we share, but we also have things we like to do that are for ourselves. Erin is really into embroidery and even once had an Etsy shop where she sold comedic, Harry Potter-themed embroidery to raise money for charity. Erin can’t wait to employ her sewing skills to make cute onesies and decorations for her future child’s room. Dave is really into video-games, and while some of the zombie games he likes aren’t kid-friendly, he also still enjoys the classics and can’t wait to teach his kid to play. He might even let them beat him once in a while!
There are so many hobbies that we share. We’re both big hikers and we frequent the parks and trails around Los Angeles with our big, goofy dog, Luna. Our favorite trail is one in Malibu that leads to a giant waterfall.
We also really enjoy boating. This started with Erin who grew up spending her summers on Nolin Lake in Kentucky. Erin is just as comfortable on the water as she is on land and she shared her passion for boating with Dave. Living in LA, we find any excuse to get out on the ocean. For our last birthday (our birthdays are only days apart so we often throw a joint party) we rented a boat in Marina Del Rey for a sunset cruise with all of our friends.
Meet Erin, by Erin
I was born and raised in Kentucky by the best parents of all time, pretty sure that’s not an exaggeration. Growing up in a close-knit family is one of the main reasons I’ve always wanted to be a mom. There’s nothing I value more than family, and I can’t wait to start one of my own with Dave.
My upbringing provided me with a love for water-skiing, hiking, and any board game I was able to beat my brothers at like Scrabble or Stratego.
I moved to Los Angeles to follow my dream of writing for television. I’ve worked on many comedies from “Will and Grace” to the reboot of “Saved by The Bell” but currently write for “That 90s Show” on Netflix. While my job can be demanding, being a TV writer means I have a hiatus every year, much like a school teacher in the summer, and I look forward to planning fun vacations for my family during my future hiatuses.
I like to think of myself as someone who’s hardworking and driven, but who never takes herself too seriously.

More About Erin, by Dave
As a comedy writer, being creative and funny comes easy to Erin. Whether she’s goofing around in the kitchen dancing with our two dogs, or making up an “ad jingle” for an obscure product that no one wants, it’s hard to keep a straight face around her.
All jokes aside, Erin is an incredibly empathetic person and a fiercely loyal friend. Being the emotional “rock” for those close to her, friends and family can always depend on that. If someone in her life is struggling, Erin is the first to reach out and do something about it. I can’t tell you how many friends of ours have stayed at our house because they were going through a rough patch. She tends to show up when it counts.
Erin comes from an amazing family and it shows in how she treats people she loves. It’s clear to me that Erin learned a lot from her own experiences growing up in a big, fun loving family and wants that for her own kids.

If I had to describe myself in a word, it would be “dork”. I’ve always been really into nerd culture. Whether it’s comic books, science fiction or video games, I’m usually all over it. One of the most exciting aspects to having a child is sharing these cultural staples with them. Whether it’s introducing “Star Wars”, reading “The Hobbit” to them before bed, or racing them in Mario Kart, I seriously can’t wait.
Don’t let the nerdy side fool you though. I’m not strictly an indoor guy. I love taking my dogs on hikes, photographing the outdoors, or going on bike rides. Being active is really important to me and I plan to have some outdoor adventures with my future kids.
I’ve been a video editor for 15 years. Having worked in commercials, public service announcements, and film, I can say with certainty that comedy is my specialty. Not too long ago I decided to start my own company. One of the main reasons for this is to have a more flexible work schedule, which will be a huge benefit when starting a family.

More About Dave, by Erin
Dave is an excellent cook, a decent handyman, and the best person to go see a movie with. People describe him as having an infectious laugh, and I think that’s because he’s so big-hearted. Dave is kind, funny, and intelligent, but me saying that would make him turn red because he’s terrible at taking a compliment.
I’m excited to see Dave become a dad because he’s a great caretaker. For the past decade I’ve watched him take care of our needy rescue dogs, play with our friend’s children, and be a fantastic brother to his sister Jordan who has William’s Syndrome (a developmental disorder similar to Downs Syndrome). Jordan is an amazing, spirited person who also happens to believe that The Muppets are real. Every year for Christmas, Dave leaves the room so that Jordan can “get a call from Kermit” (his Kermit impression has gotten really good). The Kermit call is the highlight of Jordan’s year, and the perfect example of who Dave is.

Our Home and Community
We live on a quiet cul-de-sac in the heart of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. It’s usually 70 degrees and sunny in Los Angeles, so our backyard is where we spend most of our time and is the “chef’s kiss” of our home. We’ll either be playing with the pups on the patio, taking care of the herb garden, or grilling dinner by the pool. We both love to swim and we’re looking forward to giving our kiddo lessons so we can have family pool days when they are ready and swim safe. Speaking of lessons, the cul-de-sac is a perfect spot to learn how to ride a bike since there are rarely cars that ever make it down to our end of the street. We also live very close to a few wonderful public parks and we’re walking distance to 2 schools! Despite living in a quiet neighborhood in The Valley, we also have easy access to all the amazing things that Los Angeles as a whole has to offer. From the beaches in Malibu, to the incredible food, to the countless multicultural neighborhoods waiting to be explored. Plus we’re only an hour away from Disneyland!
Our Dogs, Luna & Harvey
We’re definitely “dog people” since we both agreed that one dog wasn’t enough. Harvey is a small beagle mix and Luna is a giant lab mix. And yes, their size difference makes it all the more hilarious when they play together. Luna is the sweetest most attentive dog who loves to go on long hikes and chase down little critters along the way. Harvey is more the lap dog of the two, motivated only by food and snuggles. They are both great with kids and extremely excited about the prospect of a new family member!
We both come from large families that are very excited for a new addition. Our future child will be the first grandchild on Erin’s side and only the third on Dave’s side, so they will very much be the center of attention for a while. Erin is close to her two brothers who are both married and will eventually start families of their own. And while all of Erin’s extended family is still in Kentucky, we will be making frequent trips there to visit every year. Dave is from Connecticut and all of his extended family is still on the East Coast, it’s a good thing we like to travel! Dave’s parents are retired and have managed to make their way to Los Angeles once every year since we moved there. We have no doubt that their visits will become more frequent once there’s a grandchild to visit too!
An exciting new development for us is that Erin’s parents just recently bought a house in Los Angeles, only three miles away from our home! Erin’s parents aren’t retired just yet, but once they are, they plan to split their time 50/50 between Los Angeles and Kentucky. We’re excited to finally have relatives in California, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention our amazing found-family in Los Angeles. Our friends can’t wait for there to be a baby in the mix!
Our Thoughts on Parenting
We’d be interested in an open adoption and staying in contact with you as your child grows up, if that is what you would like. In our household, we want the idea of adoption introduced to our child from day one. Normalizing it as much as possible clears the way for a positive outlook on their unique experience. It is our goal to raise a child who is proud of their adoption story.
One of the things we get the most excited talking about is how we’re going to spend the holidays with our future kid! We’re the couple with the giant Halloween decorations in the front yard, who make a whole a turkey for Thanksgiving even when it’s just the two of us, and who’ve spent the past ten Christmases filling stockings for our dogs. The warmth we feel when we talk about sharing our traditions with a child speaks to the philosophy that will guide us as parents, that if you provide a home full of stability and love, you will raise a child with the confidence to go out into the world and figure out what makes them happy.
Thank you for reading this far, we can’t even imagine how much information there is to take in as you make this giant decision. We’ve said a lot, but if we were to distill everything in this document down to one thought, it would be “we have so much love to give”. We dream of raising a child in a fun and joyous environment like the ones we grew up in. We want to create a family where goofiness and an adventurous spirit are valued highly. There is nothing we care about more than time together, and we are ready to give our future child all the time in the world. We’d be very interested in discussing open adoption and figuring out a way together to move forward in the best possible way for all of us. Please reach out to us with any and all questions.
