Hello from Los Angeles, California! We are George and Sasha. We want you to know that adoption is our first choice to grow our family. We knew early on that we wanted to have children and that for us family is so much more than biology. While we may be able to have biological children, the more we learned about open adoption the more we knew it was right for us. We are both so excited to be parents, to unconditionally love a child, nurture them and guide them to feel pride in their story. For us, adoption is also about honoring birth mothers and their choices. While we can’t imagine what this decision means to you, we know that placing a child for adoption is an incredible act of love and we have so much respect for your hopes and dreams for your child’s future. We appreciate this opportunity to introduce ourselves and are sending you extra love and strength.

Our mutual friends kept insisting we’d hit it off but we both hated the idea of them playing matchmakers! We thought they’d given up when Sasha moved from London, England to the US. Then, in November 2009, we met by chance when Sasha was visiting London. We both felt an instant connection. After a few secret dates we confessed to our friends that they might have been right after all. As it turns out, they’d never given up on us and that “chance” meeting hadn’t been a coincidence at all! We discovered our shared love of climbing mountains, swimming in lakes and diner food while road tripping across the US, and married in 2011 when George moved to California. Over the past 10 years, that initial spark has become a strong partnership based on love, respect and lots of fun. We have so much love and excitement about the world to share with a child and can’t wait for this next adventure.
Meet George, by Sasha
George grew up in a small village surrounded by lakes on the east coast of England. Since learning to swim, no one’s been able to keep him out of the water, no matter how cold it is! I love that George always stands up for what he believes in but is also someone who thinks deeply and is willing to change his position on things. He has a calming influence but life with George is never ever boring. A favorite memory is watching him win a dance competition on the jumbotron at a baseball game! I know he will make our future child feel loved for who they are every single day and guide them to be the best version of themselves.

My Career, by George
My love for storytelling led me to a career in radio. I became a journalist to cover underreported stories such as prison conditions, low wages in the restaurant industry, and how pollution affects communities. Now as an executive producer for a media company in Hollywood, I get to bring new stories to millions of people around the world. I am grateful to be able to have extended time off when our future child arrives and that my regular schedule has a lot of flexibility.
Meet Sasha, by George
Sasha grew up in London, England. Her mom is from the Netherlands and her Dad from New York, so she and her sister were lucky to be raised with lots of mixed traditions and two languages. Her mom told me that her first sentence was “I can if I want too!” She’s still fiercely independent and the bravest person I know. Her attention to detail and compassionate view on life make her the person our friends and family turn to for advice and comfort. She’s truly the person I want to spend all of my free time with because she’s full of surprises and her laugh is contagious. Sasha is going to be an incredible mom! I’ve seen the special bond she has with the kids she nannied before going back to school and with our friends’ kids. She knows how to make every child feel special and will nurture ours to be a caring, resilient and driven person who laughs a lot.

My Career, by Sasha
I am currently midway through completing my PhD in sociology where I’m paid to study how doctors and parents work together to take care of sick kids. I work from home most of the time and my days are very flexible so I can prioritize my family, which will be extremely helpful when we bring a new baby home!

At this point, our two families have become truly intertwined, our parents even vacation together without us! We make sure we visit the whole extended family in the United Kingdom and France at least once a year, if not twice, and they all love to visit Los Angeles. Everyone is so excited to welcome our future child to the family.
My parents met 35 years ago and still clearly have the best time together. My mum, Christine, worked as a nurse when we were kids and now teaches nursing, and my dad Peter is a professor of education. My younger sister Rae is a roller-derby playing paramedic who can’t wait to be an aunt. Sasha and I are also especially close to my aunts, Victoria and Jane, who were two of my role models growing up.
My family lives all over the world but we are all very close and love to visit each other. My older sister Anna and I still call each other almost every day just to say a quick hello; thankfully my brother-in-law is from Los Angeles, so they visit most of all! My parents, Bob and Christine, are retired and plan to spend as much time as possible with their first grandchild.
- We both grew up with family mealtimes. This daily tradition provided a strong sense of connection and that’s what we want for our future child too.
- Friendsgiving in LA
- Two Christmases?! Dutch Christmas on December 5th with Sasha’s family and the 25th with George’s. On evenings before the 5th, everyone sings songs and all the children put a shoe out for SinterKlaas to leave candies in. With George’s family, tree decorating is a serious business!
- We love sharing Bonfire Night on November 5th with our friends in Los Angeles. It’s a British holiday where everyone gathers to watch fireworks and drink lots of hot chocolate.
Our Home and Community
We feel so lucky to call Los Angeles, California home. This amazing city is so diverse and busy yet so close to mountains, forests, desert and the beach. We live in a three-bedroom house with plenty of space to host and we’ve built a strong network of support here. Our child will grow up with plenty of local chosen-family to cheer them on and pick them up when they take a tumble.
Our neighborhood will be so much fun for a kid! It’s considered one of the most diverse, walkable, and family-friendly in LA. Virtually everything we need is just a few steps away, including excellent schools, story time at the library and movie screenings for parents and kids. Best of all, the largest park in LA-- with miles of trails to explore, a giant playground, merry-go-round, zoo, miniature railroad, pony rides and an observatory-- is just around the corner.
