We want you to know that we consider you to be a superhero. The strength it must take to consider this, and the love it shows you have for your child has us in awe. We know the family you choose to bless with your child needs to feel like the right fit. Here is a little about us….
Hi! We are Holly and David from San Diego, CA!
How We Met, By David
I showed up for a relationship class, based on the book, Calling in the One. Knowing we would choose a “buddy” for a homework assignment, I nervously sat next to an attractive brunette, named Holly. Rather than a homework check-in by phone, I bravely asked Holly, “Would you like to meet for lunch at the San Diego County Fair?” She said yes. When she ordered the chicken sandwich stuffed in a Krispy Kreme jelly donut, I knew Holly was “the one.” A year later I invited Holly over to carve pumpkins for Halloween. Before she arrived, I had already carved one that read: “Marry Me?” Thankfully, she then responded with a pumpkin carved as a “Yes.”
How Had We Not Met Before?
- Both our Dads were Navy fighter pilots and knew each other.
- We both grew up in San Diego
- We are both professional designers working from home
- We both lived in Los Angeles, but love Encinitas (San Diego) more

Together we’ve created a life we love. A life that we so want to share with a child. We got engaged in 2008 and began planning our wedding. It was our first design project collaboration. A small ceremony at a house on the beach, we made the decorations, centerpieces and invitations ourselves. It was full of love, laughter and best of all, our favorite people.
Our next collaboration was the house. We needed to convert David’s bachelor pad into our family home. As a professional interior designer, Holly was ready for the task. It is now our favorite place–simple, warm and welcoming.
We both work from home and love it. It is great to have a partner just down the hall to bounce ideas off of or get a second opinion. Spending a lot of time together has been a tool for us becoming a great team. We both value balance and strive to have a blend of work and play. Cooking dinner every weeknight is important to us. We laugh a lot.
We long to welcome a child into our life to share in our love and laughter. We love to travel, near or far. We’ve ventured on big family scuba diving trips, a safari in Africa, surf trips to Mexico, and weekend getaways with friends to the desert. We plan to keep traveling and to share our wonderful world with your child.
Our Weekends Are Spent...
- At the farmers market
- Working in the garden
- Attending concerts
- Going to outdoor theater
- Ordering take-out with binge-worthy tv
- Cooking dinner with friends
- Eating at local restaurants
- Choosing a new monthly adventure and exploring it
What I Love About Holly, By David
Aside from her movie-star good looks she inherited from her grandma (who was in the movies), Holly is incredibly thoughtful and supportive. She frequently puts the needs of her family and friends ahead of her own. I admire her loyalty to the same group of girlfriends she’s had since junior high school.
Holly is a tenacious problem solver. I am always impressed by her willingness to learn new skills or google-search how to get something done. She and her Dad spend time with tools fixing things around the house and I have learned a lot from “handy-woman Holly.
I always wanted a creative partner in life. Holly shares her love of design, cooking, baking, and event planning with family, friends, and me (thankfully!). From her grandpa (a Disney animator), she was gifted with an eye for design and the ability to draw. Holly would spend every week at Disneyland if she could!
Holly attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. From there, she worked for a high-profile celebrity interior designer in Hollywood. Holly now runs her own studio focusing on designing homes, apartment complexes and hotels. She plans to scale-back her interior design business to nurture our baby.
While I can sometimes be an idealist, I’m lucky to have Holly balance me out as a realist. She keeps me grounded with her a personal finance skills and intuitive understanding of human nature. Holly is very smart. Which can be annoying when we watch movies together and halfway through, she whispers, “I know how this ends.” Thankfully the popcorn keeps her engaged until the credits roll.
What I Love About David, By Holly
I’ll be honest—David was not the kind of guy I normally dated. He seemed too clean cut and serious. But he was cute, so when he asked me to lunch, I said yes. He surprised me. David is a perfect blend of smart, serious, adventurous and playful. He looks at the world through the eyes of a child. He is also patient in a way I greatly admire— thoughtful and rarely impulsive, he takes his time thinking things through. He is calm and steady with an optimistic outlook on life.
David is dedicated. His closet friends today are the same guys he hung out with in high school. When he finds something he is passionate about, he studies it, practices it, lives and breathes it. This dedication to life-long learning is something I hope he passes on to our child. David is very active—whether it’s surfing, yoga, or playing pickleball, he loves moving and being outside.
After high school, David attended USC studying International Relations and Marketing. After graduation, David landed a job at Paramount pictures in the international marketing department. He excelled in several corporate jobs before a life-changing decision to pursue a more creative career. He went back to school at UCLA to study graphic design. Today, he owns a marketing and branding firm and loves helping clients tell their story.
We are both lucky to come from loving, close and fun families. Even more fortunate that our families like each other. They have even gone on vacation together without us!
David’s mom Sandy and his biological father Bill were junior high sweethearts. Bill passed away when he was a baby. When his mom remarried, David's stepfather Tom adopted him. The new family welcomed David’s sister, Suzi when he was 3. David was fortunate to grow up with three sets of grandparents and lots of aunts and uncles to shower him with love.
Today Suzi, her husband Brian, and their kids Dylan and Cassidy are thrilled about Holly and David adopting a baby. Luckily, they live only 10 minutes away and have offered to babysit. David’s mom Sandy, a retired school teacher, and her husband Dave, live in Austin, TX. They visit California frequently to see their grandkids. David’s dad Tom, a retired Navy fighter pilot turned CPA, and his wife Cher live about 30-minutes away in San Diego.
Holly’s parents have been married for 46 years. They live five minutes away and can’t wait to spoil their first grandchild. Both retired, they spend their days scuba diving all over the world, going on RV trips, and helping others. Holly’s dad, Bob, a retired 747 pilot, is extremely handy and can fix anything. Holly’s mom, Karen, is quite accomplished with sewing and baking. Holly’s mom comes from a big family. Holly, an only child, grew up close to her cousins whom she considers more like her sisters. She can’t wait in introduce her child to all their cousins. When Holly was young, they traveled often to Hawaii, Europe, Mexico and road trips around the US.
We live in a modern little house in Encinitas, California on a street bustling with kiddos. Our home has 3 bedrooms with a big yard, outdoor patios, and a vegetable garden. Last Halloween we overheard a trick-or-treater at our door tell their mom, “this house looks like the Incredibles’ house.” David believes this is the best compliment ever.
There is a strong sense of community in our neighborhood. Every year all the families on our street go caroling together on Christmas Eve. Last year, a group of dads and kids strung holiday lights from one end of street to the other.
Our beach town is known for being open-minded and family friendly. Encinitas is famous for surfing, yoga and an outdoor lifestyle. We have great schools, parks and a YMCA with world-class skateboarding just around the corner. Surrounded by hiking trails, our house is also about a mile walk (with stroller) to the beach, shops and restaurants.
