We are John and Melissa with our son Jacob (and our dog Rocket) from sunny Southern California. We want to thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We hope in reading this letter, that you will find comfort and reassurance, knowing that we will always love and care for your child unconditionally. Being parents has been one of our greatest joys and since having Jacob we have known that we want another child to love as part of our family. We know your decision is a difficult one, and we cannot thank you enough for considering us.
Our Story, By Melissa
Although we grew up 1,000 miles apart (John grew up near Orlando, FL) we met in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA while attending college. I was interning as an athletic trainer for John's college football team. Our first conversation was on an eight hour bus ride and we talked the whole way. Needless to say, we hit it off instantly! We dated throughout our senior year and in the fall after we graduated, we were engaged on the 50 yard line, where we first saw each other. We were married a year later and then moved promptly to California where John served as an officer in the Marine Corps.
We are a happily married couple with a curious 2-year-old and an energetic dog. We have an amazing family and cannot imagine life without each other. We also have great extended families that are thrilled to welcome another baby into our family. We love being with our families and enjoy every minute we spend with them.
We love to travel and learn about other places across the country and around the world. We love being active and outside having fun. We cannot wait to share all of this with an incredibly special little baby.
We both have strong faith, and hold God at the center of our home. While we struggled with infertility, we know that it is beyond a doubt God’s plan for us to adopt and it has strengthened our marriage for sure.
5 Things That Make Us Happy
- Our family
- Each other
- Our dog
- The mountains and the beach
What We Love to Do
- We love to take vacations and road trips. We take a bunch of small weekend trips and a couple of longer trips each year to places all over the country. Some of our favorite spots are Mammoth Lakes, California and National Parks like Yosemite, Mt. Rainier and Yellowstone. We have traveled to Costa Rica, Canada, Mexico, England and France! We have also been to all 50 states!
- Our longest trip was over 5,000 miles in 17 days across 12 states and 1 Canadian province!
- We love playing and watching sports, hiking and skiing, and really, just like BEING OUTDOORS. We go hiking with Jacob and Rocket (our dog). Jacob rides in style in a baby-backpack and Rocket runs free through the forest whenever he can!
- John plays basketball and softball in our church league.
- Melissa walks every day, and loves to exercise. She also loves scrapbooking and making homemade cards for people.
Meet Melissa, By John
Melissa is passionate, caring, loyal, fun, and tough. She has an infectious personality and can strike up a conversation with anyone at any time just like they were old friends. Our first conversation lasted eight hours and I knew right away she was the one for me. When she was an ice skating teacher, I would hear from the parents of her students about the impact she was having on their lives. Now I see every day what a great Mom she is and how she is having a lasting impact on Jacob’s life.
Melissa is sweet and fun-loving. She is always ready to make things that we may not want to do into a game. We have so much fun on road trips, seeing new things, trying new activities, and of course, having a great time talking to each other. Going to the beach or the mountains with Melissa, Jacob, and Rocket is my favorite way to spend a day. I love being with her every moment I can be and she is truly my best friend.
Melissa is disciplined and when she sets her mind to something, it is going to happen. I admire her strength and willingness to stick with a tough task until it is done. I knew that with her loving spirit, inner strength, and faith in God she would make a great mom. She makes life fun and there is constant energy when she is in the room.
I have a degree in Athletic Training and I taught Figure Skating since I was in high school. I loved working with children, nurturing them, getting to know and be a part of their families, and watching them grow into young adults. When we were blessed with Jacob’s arrival in 2019, I transitioned into being a stay-at-home Mom, and I love it!
Meet John, By Melissa
John is a great father and I thank God every day that he is my husband. I can always count on him no matter what. I can tell him things that I wouldn’t tell anyone else and it’s always met without judgment or criticism. John is practical, hard working, and the smartest person I know…also the funniest. John is always finding new ways to make me laugh. He makes me (and everyone else) laugh all the time with his crazy voices and made up characters!
John is comfortable as the center of attention or in the background. He takes the lead when it is needed, but is easy going and content in any situation. John is the most optimistic and encouraging person I know, rarely complains about anything, and knows how to find the fun in tough times. Whenever I have a difficult situation facing me, he is always there to listen to me, hug me, and give good advice.
He loves making up and playing games. He seems to have no limit to his energy when there is a fun time to be had. He has so much fun with Jacob and kids always seem drawn to him because of his silliness! He loves being a father and spending as much time together as a family as possible.
I am the General Manager of a distribution center. I am very happy with my current role and company and enjoy leading my team. I work close to home and have flexible hours. The job is stable and allows us to live very comfortably, which allows Melissa the opportunity to be a stay at home mom.

Jacob is our wonderful little boy that we adopted at birth in 2019. We are so grateful to his birth Mom that she chose us to be Jacob’s parents. He is truly a blessing to our family and has added immeasurable joy.
Jacob is so full of energy and it seems like he is laughing all the time. He is learning something new every day and so are we! He is a sweet and loving little boy. He loves playing with Rocket and squeals with excitement when he enters the room. He loves playing with his toys, running around outside and reading books before bedtime. He is a good little traveler and makes road trips even more fun. We would love for him to be able to share his life with a little brother or sister, since we both grew up in families with siblings. We look forward to many great times with lots of fun and laughter in the years to come.
Home Sweet Home
We live close to the beach and mountains. If you ask us, we say it’s perfect! We love our home! Our house is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house with a playroom and a big backyard, in a wonderful, safe community.
People say our house is very cozy and relaxing! It’s decorated in a casual beach style. Our neighborhood has the highest rated schools in our city, and our elementary and middle schools are within walking distance. We have friendly neighbors that are out in the evenings talking to each other and watching their children play. There are two large parks with amazing playgrounds within walking distance of our house.
Our Vacation Cabin
We bought a vacation cabin in our local mountains to have fun and create lasting family memories. In the summer, we enjoy hiking and swimming in the lake, and in the winter we like to ski and play in the snow.
We rescued Rocket at 3 months old, and he is currently 7. He is a Labrador Retriever mix. He is so patient, gentle, and laid back! He loves everybody, especially little kids! Since Jacob’s arrival, Rocket takes everything in stride including tail pulling, ear grabbing, and being crawled on like a piece of playground equipment. Rocket gets less sleep than he used to but loves having a built-in playmate!
The People We Love
Melissa’s parents have been happily married for 50 years. They live 30 min away and cannot wait to have another grandchild! Melissa’s sister lives in North Carolina with her husband and they cannot wait to be an aunt and uncle again!
John’s parents live in Florida, where John grew up, and have been happily married for 53 years. They are really excited to have more grandkids! John’s sister and her husband live in Georgia, and have two beautiful adopted children of her own. We love them very much! Even though the family is on the East Coast, we get together several times a year.
We are so happy that both families are fully supportive of our adoption plan and are as excited as we are about adding a precious little one to our family!
It is our desire to provide the same experiences that our parents gave to us; a fun, warm, loving and stable home where a child can feel safe and secure, knowing that they have our full support.
Our Promises to You
- To provide a house full of love, laughter, hugs and kisses
- To love unconditionally
- To make life fun and exciting!
- To read a bedtime story to them every night
- To raise them to have strong values
- To cherish each and every moment with your child
- To let them find their own interests and to help develop them
- To tell them their special adoption story
- To make sure they know how much you love them
- To protect them and help them grow up to be strong and independent
In Closing – Thank You
Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us. We admire your courage to consider adoption. If we are blessed to be the couple that you choose, we will spend every moment of the rest of our lives loving them and making the best life possible for your child.
