We are Juliet & Simon from Manhattan Beach, California. We are so honored you might consider us to become a part of your baby’s life. We respect the process of adoption and understand this decision is being made from the deepest love. It would be our greatest honor to raise your baby. We will provide a loving, stable and secure home that is full of travel, picnics by the ocean near our home, and lots of laughter.
We hope we can give you a glimpse into the warm, supportive home we would provide. We are established in our careers and have the financial security to provide for all of the baby’s needs. More than anything, we look forward to showering them with unconditional love. Thank you for taking the time to know us better!
Juliet’s from Pennsylvania, and Simon’s from South Africa. Despite our vastly different backgrounds, we have so much in common. We share a faith which we’ll pass on to our child, as well a commitment to do “the next right thing.” We’ll also share our love of simple pleasures, like taking a swim in the middle of the day and playing with our perma-puppy, Metta. We are passionate about having a positive impact on the world – it was Simon’s belief in social and racial justice that brought him to the States in the first place! Juliet grew up with academic parents who also emphasized education, diversity, curiosity and tolerance, so when we met over eight years ago, our connection was immediate…
We knew when we met that parenthood would be a part of our path together and had considered adoption early on. So, when natural methods didn’t pan out, we understood it as a sign guiding us once again toward adoption, and we couldn’t be more excited to parent together.
When I met Juliet, I was immediately struck by how kind, smart, and resilient she is. The way she follows her passions is infectious. She has a clear internal sense of herself and her values. She even has a special “spider vacuum” that will relocate spiders instead of squishing them! She never wants to do harm and is constantly evolving to be a better version of herself.
Juliet is the grounding force in our family. She keeps her promises and balances her work, home, health, and a deep spiritual life. It’s inspiring. She’s a great planner, but she also knows when to scrap the plan and go with the flow.
Juliet’s a wonderful stepmother to my three other children. I know she would approach motherhood with the same kindness and balance that she lives every day.
Simon’s my moral code and my compass. He loves collecting new experiences traveling the globe, or perfecting a new recipe at home. Doesn’t matter to him if it took five tries! Simon does EVERYTHING with an open-heart, curiosity, and willingness to keep trying.
Simon’s strong and passionate work ethic doesn’t detract from his commitment to his family or other passions. In addition, Simon surfs competitively, and loves sharing the ocean with everyone he meets. I’ve even nicknamed him "Mr. Fish” because of how at home he seems in the water.
I’ve “sneaked a peek” at the kind of father he is by witnessing him engage with his three children. He truly prioritizes their needs over his own. He’s encouraged them to discover what they’re great at, and given them every advantage for a prosperous adult life. I know he’ll do the same for the child we raise together.
We love music from Classic Rock to Opera, with a heavy dose of Springsteen. Music and art will definitely add to our child’s upbringing. As will movies! And because of Simon’s career, sometimes we get to go to fun premieres, too!
We’re keen on international adventures, but love finding them locally, too. Recently we rented an RV to travel across the U.S., and it was an absolute blast.
In between trips, we love cooking for others, and consider time spent with family and friends sacred. Other days, bike rides along the board walk, followed by a picnic on the beach is a perfect Saturday afternoon for us.
Simon is an avid water person, and has made a personal vow to always live near the water. Juliet happily accepted this (she is a beach lover), and enjoys practicing her yoga & Pilates by the pool or on the beach.
We live in a large yet comfortable home with a great back yard and pool, which is wonderful since we work from home 75-100% of the time. Simon works in the film industry, and Juliet is an expert in the field of health and wellness. Both of our schedules allow for a lot of flexibility which is great because there is so much to do in Manhattan Beach! It’s such a great town for raising children. While it’s got a laid-back vibe, it’s got year-round activities for kids. Pumpkin races, fireworks, multiple parks (we live by several!), an aquarium, botanical gardens, and of course, the beach.
Aside from all the great activities, we love our location because it is walking or biking distance to all of the schools - in one of the best school districts in California.
Simon’s three young adult children now live scattered across the country, pursuing their dreams. He’s made sure to encourage strong work ethic in whatever they do, but also has helped them find out for themselves what they’re good at and enjoy. He’s made a point of investing in their interests, and has helped them develop the skills to go after what they want.
Simon has taken his children (as well as Juliet!) all over the world. It was, and is, an important tenant of our parenting philosophy for a young person to travel internationally and experience other cultures.
We’re looking forward to sharing the world, and all of its many experiences, with our child.
Metta is our rescue dog, who has brought so much joy and laughter into our lives. He’s got an appetite for affection and kisses, is GREAT with kids, and loves to play and snuggle.
We’re not entirely sure of his breeding, we know he is half cocker spaniel, and we think the other half may be cat! Scaredy-cat that is! When there’s thunder, you can be sure Metta will be glued to your lap!
We’re very close to our family and friends, wherever they are in the world! Simon has two brothers and a sister, with whom he speaks every week, as well as uncles and ten cousins in South Africa and the United Kingdom, whom we see a few times a year on our visits.
Juliet’s father and stepmother are already planning their own move to Manhattan Beach. They can’t wait to be grandparents!
We have a beautiful, diverse group of friends of all ages, as well as religious and political backgrounds and beliefs. During non-Covid times, we’ve made a habit of hosting potlucks. Everyone brings a dish, the kids, and the laughter can be heard down the block.
We also host a “Friends-giving” and “Friends-mas” each year, and one heck of a Super Bowl party.
As well, Sundays are an open-ended invitation for anyone to swing by for dinner. It’s a priority of ours to be consistently available to our family and friends.
Our deepest desire is to devote our lives and love to a child. Providing experiences for them, showing them how big and beautiful the world really is in person, rather than on a screen. It’s a not-so-secret desire for Juliet to teach a child how to read an actual map, rather than rely on GPS!
We see parenting as a calling, and part of our mission to make the world a better place. It will be a joy to share our passions for the ocean, the outdoors, health, food, travel, reading and a help them build a genuine curiosity and zeal for life.
Raising a child will be the greatest job and purpose of our lives. It’s something we look forward to with joy, but also with acute awareness of its gravity. Childhood is a precious, important time, and we understand the importance of a safe, secure, and loving environment in which to play and grow.
Our very solemn promise to you is that we will look out for your baby, forever. We will nurture, protect, and love this child, and do everything in our power to ensure your baby has a happy, confident, and fulfilling life. They will know about your incredible selflessness and sacrifice. We know a child is an incredible gift, and we are fully committed to our roles as parents.
Thank you so much for considering us. No matter what choice you make, we wish you peace and happiness. If you have more questions, or would like to get to know us further, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to meeting you.
