Hello! We are Katie and David from Castle Rock, Colorado. We are deeply grateful for the brave and selfless choice that you are making and appreciate you taking the time to read our profile. Although there will never be a way for us to understand what you’re going through right now, we will forever admire and respect the positive impact you’re making in the world by choosing adoption.
Our dream has always been to grow our family through adoption and we’ve been planning for this since we first started dating. Both of us are passionate about building a family with a foundation of unconditional love, honesty, and trust.
We understand the challenges that adoption can bring, but we believe in how beautiful and impactful it truly is. We are genuinely thankful and excited to adopt a child and become parents.
We met in 2009 during one of our first college classes in Fargo, North Dakota. Both of us were aspiring architects at the time and got to know each other through a project we worked on together (this project is now framed and hanging in our dining room!). There was an immediate connection between us and we soon became close friends. We remained friends throughout college, and our favorite activity was going to different all-you-can-eat buffets around town.
Five years after we met, we decided to start dating. Because we already knew each other so well, it was clear that we were with the person we would end up marrying. We would write cheesy, sweet notes to each other every month, and David saved receipts, ticket stubs, and fortune cookie fortunes from our first dates. One July afternoon we had a picnic, and David surprised me with a book full of all the mementos from our relationship. After reading through every page of this book, and reliving our favorite memories together, David proposed! In 2016, we moved to Colorado and got married in a small mountain ceremony with family and friends.
I grew up in Hugo, Minnesota in a very supportive and loving family. I have one older sister and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who I still enjoy spending time with. After graduating from high school, I moved to Fargo, North Dakota to attend college. When I went to college, I found myself getting involved in organizations on campus like Student Government and Greek Life as well as volunteering for local organizations. My passion for wanting to be an active member of my community led me to a degree in Political Science and beginning my career at a small non-profit in Fargo.
When Katie and I got married, we made the move from small-town North Dakota to Denver, Colorado. Making this move has allowed us to expand our opportunities and put down roots for our future family.
I’m currently working in Human Resources for a large technology company where I’ve been employed for over five years. After starting as a contractor, I’ve worked my way up to becoming a certified Project Manager and enjoy the impact I get to make. My career offers me the flexibility to be at home and available for my family which is very important for me. I’m passionate about being a father and will be an actively involved and supportive role model for my children.
David has an amazing ability to bring balance and comfort to life’s sometimes chaotic and stressful moments. He is thoughtful, hardworking, and level-headed. From the moment I met him, he has consistently been someone I could truly be myself around, go to for advice, and celebrate with. He is sweet and sensitive, encouraging, and pushes me out of my comfort zone in order to grow. He is a man of integrity and will always do the right thing even when it’s not the easy thing. Even though he has many ambitious goals for himself and his career, he always puts our family first and values quality time in our relationship.
I grew up in a small, rural community outside of Fargo, North Dakota. I went to the same school Kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated with 50 people. I went to college about 20 minutes from home at North Dakota State University. I initially wanted to be an architect, because I love art and design. After a summer job nannying a child with developmental delays, I realized my passion for working with kids. I started pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education and child development, and later completed my Master’s Degree in special education.
I have been a teacher for 8 years and currently work at a charter school in our community teaching 1st and 2nd graders that need additional support in math and reading. My favorite part about my job is the opportunity to build strong relationships with students and their parents. It’s also extremely rewarding to see kids start to feel confident and enjoy something that initially is very difficult for them. With summers off and breaks throughout the school year, my career provides the opportunity to spend lots of quality time with my future child as they grow. With my future child, I am most looking forward to reading with them, spending time outside and at the park, exposing them to different creative outlets, and encouraging their individual interests.
I’ve known that I loved Katie from the day I met her. When I first saw Katie, I was 18 years old and I thought she was the prettiest, coolest and most funny girl I had ever met. She has a presence that makes everyone around her feel welcome and accepted. Katie has the biggest heart and is constantly putting others ahead of herself. She’s devoted her career and life to making sure the children that she works with feel supported & loved when they come to school so they can live up to all the potential they each have. I’m beyond excited to watch her bring that same energy and joy to raising our children.
I’m the luckiest guy in the world to say that thirteen years after meeting Katie, she’s still the prettiest, coolest and most funny girl I know.

We chose to move to our current neighborhood in Castle Rock, Colorado, because we knew we wanted to have kids soon and loved how family-friendly everything was. There are tons of fun parks nearby, great schools, and wonderful resources and events for families. We live in a town home in a neighborhood with lots of young kids. We are a block away from the park and have great trails throughout our neighborhood.
We love that we are only about 40 minutes to both Denver and Colorado Springs so we can take advantage of all that the bigger cities have to offer such as museums, sporting events, and zoos. Getting into the mountains is something that we also try to do as much as possible. We look forward to sharing the beauty of our state with our future children with weekend trips camping, hiking, and exploring.
We rescued our dog, Asher, in 2017 when he was one year old. He is a black lab mix and loves to cuddle, lay in the sunshine, go on walks, and play tug with his rope toys. He is extremely sweet and we are confident that he will get along great with any new addition to our family.
Katie’s Family: Katie has an older brother, Kyle, who is a civil engineer in Fargo, North Dakota. Katie’s parents amicably divorced while she was in college, and both are remarried. Her mom, Nora, lives in Castle Rock, Colorado with her husband Bob. Nora is retired, and extremely excited to spend as much time as possible with her future grandchildren. Her dad, Kevin, lives in Fargo, North Dakota with his wife, Lori. He is an architect but has a very flexible schedule so he can visit frequently. We get together with Katie’s mom and stepdad every few weeks and visit Katie’s dad and stepmom as much as possible. Katie loves that she can always count on a couple of weeks in North Dakota during the summer with her teaching schedule.
David’s Family: David has an older sister, Kate, who lives near Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband, Gregg. His parents, Jim and Gail, currently live in a small town north of Minneapolis. Jim recently retired from his job and loves woodworking. He made beautiful custom cabinets and built-ins for our home! Gail has been retired for a few years and is also very excited to spend as much time with her future grandchildren as possible. They are looking forward to traveling and making many trips to Colorado now that they are both retired. We also enjoy visiting Minnesota a couple of times a year.
Our future children will likely be the only children on each side of the family for the near future, so they are sure to be spoiled with lots of love and attention from their grandparents, aunt, and uncles.
We love spending time with our friends as well! We have kept in touch with close friends from high school and college that we like to visit a few times every year. We also have a great group of friends in Colorado, some of which are also growing their families. We are excited to navigate the world of parenthood with our friends and look forward to future playdates.
Both of us are beyond thankful that you’ve taken the time to review our profile and learn more about who we are. All we’ve ever dreamed about is building a beautiful family through adoption. If you allow us the immense privilege to raise your child, we promise to provide them with the love, support and respect to chase after their dreams and become whatever they want in life. Thank you for choosing adoption and creating a positive impact in the world.
