Kim

Hello! I’m Kim from Los Angeles, California!

Dear Birth Mother

I have not met you yet but I’m so grateful that you’re considering me because this child’s life is a precious gift and I would be honored if you choose me to share it with. Whatever you decide, I wish you nothing but happiness.  I’m a writer and producer and I used to work on television shows and on films which is how I met Keenan. She was adopted and starred in the first film I wrote. I always knew I wanted to be a mom but Keenan and her little brother were the first adopted children I’d ever met. I saw how much their parents loved them and how many adventures they had together and as I was driving home from set the day we finished filming, I made the decision that I would adopt one day. Now it’s finally time. I have a loving and stable home, a work schedule that I make and allows me to have space and I am SO ready to raise a little one!

Me In A Nut Shell

When it comes to my personality, I’m mostly sunny side up. I’m also pretty much a cheerleader and love it when people get what they want. It’s actually my job.  I have my own media company and I work with creative people, mostly women, who make beautiful things and who want them to be seen by as many people as possible. I teach them not to be afraid to speak up, to stand for themselves with confidence and to live their lives full on.  I’m passionate about social justice and know that ALL human beings deserve equal and fair treatment whether they’re black, white, Hispanic, straight, gay and everything in between. The world I want to live in values every human being.  Although I’m not religious; I am spiritual. I meditate and do yoga. I believe in fate and destiny and believe that every soul has a purpose. I also believe that every problem has a solution and if you learn how to ask the right questions, you can “hear” the answers from your heart.  When I tell stories on film, many have been about children learning to understand why the adults who take care of them make the decisions they do. In my favorite one, a six-year-old boy wonders why he is brown and his father is not. I’m mixed race and I wrote the story the way I would have wanted someone to explain why to me.

Littles

I’ve always loved kids and dogs and babies love me. As a teenager, I worked in the baby department at a major department store and later I volunteered as a mentor with a young girl in grade six helping her to complete a special project that she presented to her class. When I moved to LA, I also volunteered with an organization that worked with teenage single moms.

My Adventures

I like to travel and have been to Italy, Spain, Paris, Mexico, Dominican Republic, England, Portugal and lots of cities in the United States and Canada. My favorite country was Italy because, you know, pizza! Did I mention I like anchovies? No really, they’re not gross!  One of my favorite memories is going to Austria with my Oma when I was 10. I got to hang with some cousins, eat a lot of ice cream and tour famous castles.  I want to give the little one those kind of adventures too and we will travel to see beautiful things. I’ve also been to Switzerland to a city called Lugano which is on the border of Italy and has the bluest water I’ve ever seen. They have good pizza too.

Where I Live

I own an apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, tall ceilings and a lot of light in a suburb of Los Angeles, CA. We also have two pools including one that’s kid size around the side of the building. There are also lots of young kids and a couple of babies who live in my building. The building is also across the street from two really good schools.  Nearby there is a river walk and I go for a lot of walks and hikes which is what the small human and I will do when they arrive. I also like to have friends over for dinner, music and road trips, singing and traveling and I’m looking forward to sharing all of those things.  I work from home and I’ve organized my schedule to have a lot of free time, so I’ll have plenty of time to get to know the little one and take proper care of them. They will pretty much go everywhere I go until they’re old enough to say, “Mom, stop following me!”

My Furry Family

I have two tiny dogs: Ramona and Bruno. Both came from the pound. I got Bruno for Ramona because she was lonely. It took a hot minute for her to get used to the idea that she had to share my lap, but now they’re best friends. That is unless Bruno tries to steel her treats. Then it’s on!

My Little Family

Loved Ones

I come from a tiny biological family. I was raised by my mother and my oma (meaning grandmother in German) in Toronto, Canada. I moved to California twelve years ago because of my job in entertainment. My Oma was a nurse’s aid and my mother worked for the government. I watched A LOT of TV waiting for them to come home from work when I was a kid. I loved telling stories and wanted to be a producer like Mary Tyler Moore even though I didn’t know what a producer actually did!  My friends are like my family. My BFF Andrea has two little girls who are six and nine years old and we have regular pool dates. They’re already obsessed with the fact that soon there will be another small human to join us. My friend Clyde and I have known each other since we were sixteen. He and his husband are very excited about this adoption.

Special Notes from My Friends:

  • A note from Clyde “I know that Kim will be an amazing mother to any child.”
  • A note from andrea “She has always been attentive, thoughtful, generous and interested with my girls. She is genuinely curious about their lives and is someone I would have complete trust in whenever I need her to take care of them.”

Closing Thoughts

Important Lessons I Will Teach:

  • You are loved.
  • You are valuable just because you are you. There is nothing you have to say, do, be or have. You were born just right.
  • Being perfect is impossible, even robots make mistakes. What isn’t perfect allows you to grow and makes you unique.
  • I will always have your back. No matter what happens I’m hear to listen and help you figure life out.
  • Forgive people, not for them, for you. Nobody who hurt you deserves any more time in your thoughts.

In Closing

I’m excited to get to know your little one and to help them figure out what they want to be in the world. Maybe they’ll want to be a musician? Or a doctor? Or an inventor? A lawyer? Or a basketball player? Maybe they will own their own business? Or work in television like I did. Whatever they want to be I will help them figure out how to do it. I love them already.
