Hi! We’re Randy, Lorene & Rhett from Los Angeles, California!
Dear Birth Mother: Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. The decision you have made is not easy, we want you to know we are so grateful for your selflessness and courage! We have always wanted to have children and envisioned our house full of kids. Shortly after our wedding we began our pregnancy journey. After four years of infertility, we decided that there was a better way to have the family we’ve dreamed of through adoption. We are ready to grow our little family of three, and would be honored that you might become part of our journey. We value honesty, respect and giving back to our community. We hope that by reading through our profile, you’ll get a better understanding of who we are as individuals, as a couple and, most importantly, as parents to your child. We can’t wait to meet you and begin this journey together. We are a team! As we went through the difficulties of trying to get pregnant, our relationship & love for each other has become stronger.
As A Couple
We were introduced by Randy’s sister in Manhattan Beach where we both lived after graduating college. We quickly learned that we enjoyed spending time together and staying very active, so our dates always included some type of exciting activity like beach volleyball, learning to surf or riding our bikes. After three years of dating, Randy proposed in 2009. We were married in 2010 at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey, California. It happened to be one of the sunniest and hottest days of the year! We were surrounded by love, with our closest friends and family (some guests traveled from the Midwest and East Coast to be a part of our special day). We have loved every moment of being married and all the time we spend together. Our infertility struggles led us to adopt Rhett! He is the love and light of our lives. And our relationship with his birth mom has broadened us beyond what we thought possible. It is such an amazing process, and one that we look forward to experiencing again.
Our Hobbies & Interests
We enjoy traveling and finding adventure whether it is near or far. We try to take a “big trip” every year and have been switching between relaxing in tropical destinations like Kauai or Nicaragua and sightseeing in European destinations like Spain or Scandinavia. Last year, we traveled to Alaska as a family. We have fun even if we do not travel very far though. We can ride our bikes along Abbot Kinney in Venice Beach and eat late lunches in bustling cafes or escape to Big Bear Lake for a weekend in the mountains. We also love to stand up paddle board, hike and do yoga, as well as attend sporting events (like Dodgers baseball or USC football games).
About Lorene, by Randy: Lorene is incredibly thoughtful. She loves sending her friends and family handwritten notes on unique stationery. Whenever I travel, she always figures out a way surprise me with a card that she has hidden in my luggage. Lorene is always looking for opportunities to help people less fortunate than her and has dedicated her career to service. She focuses on homelessness and women’s issues like domestic abuse but her commitment goes beyond her job. We recently spent a Saturday morning chopping fresh veggies in a local kitchen to make a healthy vegetable soup for a local women’s shelter. Lorene is very close with her family and she talks with her sister and three nieces almost every day. Her family is pretty easy to get ahold of because they all work together, just on the other side of town, at the construction company that her father founded. We see Lorene’s family regularly and look forward to our trips to their cabin in the local mountains. As part of her background as a dancer, Lorene developed a passion for movement, health and nutrition. She enjoys practicing yoga, going on walks and hikes and riding our beach cruiser around our neighborhood.
Lorene’s Career: I’m fortunate enough to work with people who are genuinely interested in making the world and their community a better place. I consult with individuals interested in giving back and match them with nonprofit organizations that are doing good work in the community. I’ve been with my company for seven years and have a lot of flexibility in my schedule.
About Randy, by Lorene: Randy is my BEST FRIEND- my rock, my confidant and true love. He loves to be playful and make me laugh by making up silly lyrics to songs. He challenges me to be a better person, Randy is the one who encouraged me to go back to school and get my Masters degree in social work at the University of Southern California. When people first meet Randy they think he is very quiet, but he is thoughtful and respectful and once you get to know him you learn that he loves talk! Randy is a natural with kids. Our son, nieces and nephew love him. He can be found on the floor in the middle of the action, playing games with the kids or helping them build Legos. Randy is one of the most intelligent humans I know. He loves history and can be found reading books or blogs to continue his love of learning new things. I like to tell people Randy is my Google, he knows the answer to almost everything I have questions about. When I met Randy, one of the qualities that attracted me to him was love of athletics. Randy is rarely sitting on the couch relaxing, he is constantly active from surfing, cycling, running, gardening or playing with Rhett in the backyard.
Randy’s Career: I have worked extremely hard and I feel like I am in a great place professionally! I am the Chief Financial Officer at a private equity firm. It is a small company so I wear a lot of hats, but my main responsibilities include finance, accounting, human resources and investor relations. Our company focuses on investing in early stage or startup companies (kind of like Shark Tank) and we always seem to know about the latest trends before anyone else does.
Our Loving Families
Introducing Rhett: In 2016 we were blessed by the birth and adoption of our son, Rhett Michael. He has filled our hearts with more joy than we ever thought possible. He is smart, playful, loving and very silly. He loves to play with other kids in the neighborhood and spend time with his cousins. Some of his favorite hobbies are reading, swimming, watching planes and trucks and traveling. Rhett has been to eight states and two countries so far. We read together a lot as a family. He loves when we give family hugs and he is sandwiched between us. We believe that he will be a wonderful big brother and will share a special bond with his sibling through adoption.
Meet Our Loving Friends & Family: Since we both grew up in Los Angeles and attended college in the area, we are surrounded by family and close friends from elementary, high school and college. Randy’s siblings both live down the street from us so his parents are often over babysitting or visiting. Lorene’s entire family – mom, dad, sister and brother-in-law and three kids, aunts, uncles and cousins – all live in Whittier and see each other on a daily or weekly basis. Family is VERY important to us! We spend most of our weekends, holidays and travels with our family. Our friends live in our neighborhood and in the surrounding area. They are all at the same stage in their lives and we enjoy gatherings with their small children (0-5 year old).
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
We live on a tree-lined street in sunny Los Angeles, California! Our lovely three bedroom home has plenty of space including a large grassy backyard that is perfect for family gatherings, summer barbecuing and playing. Our neighborhood is filled with young families because of its proximity to parks and kid-friendly weekend activities. We are fortunate to live only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, where we enjoy the beach, riding our bikes and the outdoors.
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about us and considering us to love and cherish your child. We are so excited to grow our family and we can’t thank you enough for the courage and love that would make it possible. Your child will be raised in a house with lots of love and laughter and will be encouraged to pursue their own individual path. We look forward to hearing from you, if you decide we could possibly be the best parents for you child!
