Hi there! We are Matt & Maya from Southern California!
Dear Birthmother: Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We are honored that you are considering us to be the adoptive parents of your precious child. We can only imagine the magnitude of making such a difficult decision. This moment is proof of the amazing amount of love you have for your child, and we greatly admire and respect your tremendous courage. We look forward to meeting you, getting to know you and hearing all about the hopes and dreams you have for your child. Please know that our hearts are bursting with endless amounts of love to give a child. We want nothing more than to build our family and become parents through adoption. Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us. It will be the happiest day of our life if you pick us to be a part of this incredible journey!
About Us: Although we grew up just a few streets away from each other we didn’t meet until after high school. We crossed paths occasionally for many years until finally the timing was right and we went on a date, and that was it! Our connection was instant and nothing had ever felt so right, so special, so sweet and perfect! We feel incredibly blessed and proud to have been together for over 16 years and to have known each other for 25 years. Our love, respect, loyalty and bond with each other is one the greatest gifts we have been given. Having children is something we’ve both always dreamed of, and being parents is a role we cherish. After 5 years of struggling with infertility, we have come to realize that maybe God has another plan for us – an even more beautiful plan than we could’ve ever imagined. We are hopeful that through adoption we can fulfill our life-long dream of becoming parents.
About Our Careers: We both are lucky enough to have work we love! Maya works from home as part time wedding planner, which will afford her the flexibility and time to dedicate to raising our future child. Matt is a commercial fisherman and yacht captain, which gives him flexibility in his schedule as well. We are both huge advocates of having a stay-at-home parent and believe in a hands-on approach to raising a child. We believe there is no substitute for the parental nurturing, affection, love and consistency of being present for the emotional and physical milestones of a child.
Hi, I’m Maya! I was born and raised in an extremely close knit family in Laguna Beach, CA. Both of my parents were teachers before having children. My Dad became a Real Estate Broker just before I was born allowing him to work from home, while my Mom was able to stay home to raise us. My mom was the ultimate homemaker; cooking, making our clothes, and always involved with arts and crafts projects. My dad was a photographer, artist and athlete who coached our sports teams. Sadly, my mom passed away of brain cancer at the age of 46 when my brothers and I were still teenagers. This tragedy ultimately shaped our family relationships in a way that has only made us stronger and closer. I have 2 incredible younger brothers named Kieran and Aidan. Kieran has Down syndrome and he is the greatest gift we have ever known! He is truly the light of our lives and touches all he comes in contact with! My youngest brother, Aidan, is one of the most kind, thoughtful, athletic, and hard-working people I know. We are extremely close and spend time together weekly with my Dad, who lives nearby. Growing up I always wanted to be a mom and a wife and was a natural caretaker for my younger brothers and cousins. I love children, and family is the most important thing to me.
Introducing my wife, Maya:
Maya is truly one of a kind. Honest, caring, hard working and nurturing are the first words that come to mind. She is and will always be my anchor. She has wanted to be a mom since birth! It is something purely innate, and a role I can’t wait to see her in. As a wife, daughter, sister, friend, and human, I witness her endless love, compassion, loyalty and optimism. She is completely devoted to the people she loves. Maya is a caretaker and encourager by nature. She is in her element when helping and inspiring others and finds joy in their successes. She has a way of making you feel you can do anything you put your mind to. She is also very funny, light-hearted, open-minded and has a wonderful way of always making people feel welcomed, loved and listened to. Rest assured, your child will be in the care of a truly extraordinary lady.
I was born in San Diego and grew up in Laguna Beach, CA. My mom and dad were in their early 20’s and still in college when they had me. They both attended the University of San Diego, and my Dad graduated with a degree in finance and is a CPA. They divorced when I was five, but luckily I spent time with both my mom and dad equally. My father traveled for business when I was young, and we once spent a summer in Hawaii surfing and fishing. I also took trips with both my parents to various states in the U.S. and Mexico. We visited Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and Cabo San Lucas frequently, and that’s when my love for the ocean, travel, fishing, and surfing began to flourish. My parents always encouraged my desire to fish and be on the water, for which I am so grateful. I began fishing at age 5 and have never looked back. It is my passion, my career and what I know best. I started working on boats at 13 and now have 30 years of industry experience. I have participated in all aspects of commercial fishing including, lobster, swordfish, tuna, squid and soon to be long-lining. I am the proud owner of a 31-foot commercial fishing boat in California. When I’m not fishing, I love to spend time with Maya, my parents, my siblings and both our families. I enjoy projects around our home and helping Maya cook and entertain on holidays and special occasions with our family.
Meet Matt, by Maya:
I always knew Matt was a keeper! He is one of the most loyal, thoughtful, helpful, tenderhearted, gentle and loving people I know. He is incredibly patient and is a great listener. He is very funny and a true family man. He is close with both our families. He has become a great support to my brother Kieran, who has Down syndrome, and this warms my heart to no end! I cherish how Matt genuinely loves and protects Kieran, and how he is a true friend to him. Matt has a heart of gold and always puts his family first. Something else I have noticed over the years is that children and animals are naturally drawn to him. I believe it is because his heart so open, and he is so ready to be a parent. Seeing him with our friends’ babies has shown me that becoming a father will be his proudest and greatest achievement. He has so much love to give, and his desire to make me a mother and him a father is extraordinary.
Our Family & Friends
Our family and tight-knit group of friends are the rocks of our lives. We are truly blessed with an incredible circle of unconditional love, support and friendship. Everyone is overjoyed about our plans to adopt and cannot wait to shower this beautiful baby with endless amounts of love throughout our lives together! Maya’s Family My family and close friends are everything to me. They are the core of my very being. I am blessed with almost all my family living within a 10-20-minute drive! My mom’s sister Kay is like a second mother to me and is very eager to take on the role of “grandma!” My family are ALL my #1 support team and my greatest cheerleaders! I am forever grateful for their presence in my life and for all the love we have for one another. Matt’s Family We are blessed to live near my family as well. I was an only child until the age of 12 when my Dad remarried and had 2 children. I loved having a younger brother and sister! My big, fun family includes 9 cousins, 4 aunts, 3 uncles and my grandparents- almost all of whom live within a 15-minute drive! Holidays are a lot of fun with this great group of people!
We love to travel: We have been fortunate in having many great adventures thus far! Together we have visited various parts of Thailand, Hawaii, Mexico, Baja, Europe and the U.S. We believe life is short and world is huge! Travel broadens the mind and feeds the soul and we can’t wait to show the world to our future child!
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Our Home: We love living in Southern California, a 5-minute drive to some of the most spectacular beaches! We love the outdoors: the surf, the sand, the mountains, sunsets, blue skies and warm weather! The scenic beauty and coastline of Laguna Beach is a haven for artists and creative types so there are plenty of galleries, art shows, music and theater year round! We both have a deep love and appreciation for art, music, theater, culture and travel. Our home is cozy and surrounded by numerous parks, tennis courts and swimming pools. We live across the street from one of the finest elementary schools in our area! Our neighborhood is family-oriented, with children of all ages regularly playing outside. All of the parents are close and act as a community of support. We also live within 45 minutes of Disneyland, LEGOLAND, The San Diego Zoo and every amenity that a major city can offer. We can’t imagine a greater environment in which to raise a child! We want to thank you for spending time getting to know us! We have always wanted to be parents and cannot wait to shower your baby with love, kisses and laughter all day, every day! Should we be blessed to be chosen by you, please know your child will always know his/her adoption story, and that we will for forever be grateful for the priceless gift of life and love you gave. We wish you all the best in your decision and please know it would be an honor to raise your child.
