Patrick and Megan

Hello and Thank You!

We are Patrick and Megan from Southern California

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us, and for your consideration of us as adoptive parents. We commend you on making the decision of adoption, as this is an incredibly selfless act. Raising a child together is something that we both dream about and long for. Adoption is something that we truly hold dear. Life is full of special moments, and sharing those special moments with a child makes memories for a lifetime. We have so much love to give as parents! We hope this booklet will give you some insight into our life together, and the love we share with friends and family.

Our Favorite Hobbies and Interests:

  • Patrick is an amateur photographer
  • Megan volunteers for animal rescues/shelters
  • Patrick loves attending hockey games
  • Megan loves reading and learning about history
  • Both of us enjoy traveling, live music, viewing historic locations, learning about different cultures and trying new foods

About Us, by Patrick: We met through mutual friends, and because of two special dogs: Mac and Sherman. Megan regularly visited the neighborhood dog park with her dogs, and another dog, Sherman, kept stealing her dog Mac’s tennis balls. Megan and the other dog parent, Beverly, thought it was hilarious, and struck up a friendship. Beverly even brought a large bag of brand new replacement tennis balls for Mac. Beverly and Megan became fast friends, due in part to their mutual love of their pets.

I met my friend John when he moved in next door to me in Long Beach. He and I bonded over our love of Anaheim Angels games, and have been close friends for fifteen years. John and Beverly had gone to high school together, and were reintroduced through friends. They soon became a couple, and decided that Megan and I should meet each other. They invited us both out to dinner, where we met and hit it off. We began a long-distance romance, which culminated in John becoming ordained and performing our wedding ceremony.

About Patrick, by Megan: Patrick grew up in California as the youngest child of three. He has lived in both Northern and Southern California most of his life. As a child, Patrick played most of the major sports, but he always swam competitively and played soccer every year. He was such a strong competitor that his grandfather was brought to tears watching him play soccer. As an eighth grader, he was recruited by the high school water polo coach to try out this new sport. Patrick excelled at water polo in high school. Through his years of sports, he made many friends, many of whom are still very close to him today. After high school he discovered hockey, and to this day loves to play and watch the sport.

Patrick is now an accountant for a software company in the Bay Area. He has worked hard and become a valued part of the company, helping the company grow and become successful. Patrick works remotely from home in Southern California. He enjoys taking pictures of his son Blake playing sports, going to hockey games, and getting together with friends and family on a regular basis. Patrick still swims in the mornings before work.

Patrick is a loving and dedicated father to his son, Blake. That is one of the qualities that drew me to him when we met. His devotion to his son, who he has raised on his own as a single father since Blake was seven years old, is something rare and incredibly special.  It is clear that the sun rises and sets for Patrick with Blake at the forefront of his thoughts, and I have absolutely no doubt that the same will be true with our son or daughter. He has so much love to give, and is an amazing father and husband.

Our Home & Community: We live in a two-story, four-bedroom home located in south Orange County California. Our home is in a small development with only three streets. Our neighborhood is peaceful and safe, and everyone is very friendly. You can always find children playing around the neighborhood and at the park, neighbors socializing, and families riding bikes and walking their dogs. Everyone in the neighborhood greets us on our daily walks with the dogs. Mac and Finn are a big hit with the kids!

We live in a great school district, with an award winning elementary, middle, and high school within walking distance. There are many fun things to do in our community. We are near parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, ice rinks, dog parks, and sporting facilities. The beaches are fifteen minutes away, and Disneyland is only twenty-five minutes from our home! Patrick’s grandmother worked as a seamstress at Disneyland for 20 years, and often takes the family there to share memories and make new ones.

Meet Mac, Oreo and Finn: We currently have three rescue pets. Mac is our older Golden Retriever. He is a gentle old man. Oreo is our eleven year old short hair domestic cat. He is shy but cuddly once he gets to know you. Finn is our one year old Golden Retriever/ Labrador mix. Finn is very sweet and loves everyone.

Our Family & Friends: Patrick’s aunt, uncle and many cousins live nearby. They love to get together with family for celebrations and holidays. Every year they get together with their extended family for Christmas Eve dinner. Their family is so large you never know who is going to show up! They have family members who come from Canada, and even Guatemala.

Sailing has always been a passion shared by Patrick’s family. His grandfather was a self taught sailor, and was quite good at it. Patrick’s uncle is also a very good sailor. Growing up in Southern California, both his uncle and grandfather had catamarans and took the families out for weekend sails and days on the beach. To this day, both Patrick and his brother Chris enjoy sailing together on Chris’ boat in the San Francisco Bay.

We are both very fortunate to have many close friends in the area. They are always supportive, encouraging and always willing to lend a hand in any situation. We love getting together for dinners, sporting events, concerts, beach days, birthdays and special celebrations.  Our friends are really an extension of our family.

Megan and her parents share a very close bond. Her parents live fifteen minutes away, and are very involved and supportive parents and grandparents. They love that Megan is a teacher, and even volunteer weekly in her classroom!

Every year when Megan fundraises for the dog walk that supports the local animal shelter she volunteers at, her parents are the first to sign up and always join Megan for the walk.  Megan is also very close to her brother and his family, and loves spending time with her niece and nephew.  Even though they recently moved to Connecticut, they are still very close and keep in touch regularly. Megan has extended family all over the country and world, and any opportunity to spend time with them is cherished.

Megan’s family loves traveling together, and enjoys spending the holidays together celebrating family traditions. Thanksgiving feasts where everybody shares what they are most thankful for, decorating the Christmas tree together and reminiscing about each ornament’s history, driving around neighborhoods to see all the Christmas lights and decorations, Easter egg hunts in the backyard, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with everyone and everything decked out in green, and Fourth of July barbecues are among their most precious family traditions.
