Choose a Family

Hi!  I’m Melanie.  Thank you so much for considering me as an adoptive parent for your baby.

Dear birth mother, I respect the fact that you are considering adoption and know this must be a difficult decision.  My honest hope is that you have support while you go through this experience and that you grow stronger from this experience no matter the outcome.

I have always wanted to be a mom.  After I was married to a wonderful man named Sean, I was ready to have a baby.  Pregnancy just didn’t happen, so we began researching our options for adoption.  The more we thought about it, the more excited we were about it.  But, life does not always turn out how we have planned or dreamed it would be.   My kind, loving, smart, and generous husband Sean died in an accident three years ago.  I never thought I would be a single mom, but I simply know that I want to be a parent.   I want to love a child with my whole heart for the rest of my life.  I have so much love to offer and can’t wait to share my life with a son or daughter!

A few of my favorite things…

  • The sound of waves at the beach
  • A good cup of coffee
  • Blueberry cake donuts
  • Dressing up for Halloween
  • Lavender everything (soap, candles, essential oil, lotion)
  • Flowers that bloom in the winter
  • Breakfast foods for dinner
  • Playing board games with family and friends
  • The scent of rosemary

My friends and family describe me as…

Cheerful, kind, generous, friendly, hardworking, faithful, witty

A typical weekday for me includes starting my morning with a quick daily devotional and cup of coffee.  Trust me, I am a lot more pleasant when I can start my day this way!  I work at a hospital just 5 miles from my home.  After work, I often walk my dog and cook dinner at home.  Some evening activities include dinner and fame night with my sister and her family, Wednesday women’s Bible study, and a Friday night slumber party and movie with my nieces.

I spend time in my community with family and friends over the weekend.  On Saturdays I go to Pilates class with my niece.  On Sundays I go to church then have lunch with my family.

I love my job!  I am a speech therapist and work in a hospital with adults who have speech and swallowing disorders due to an illness or injury.  It is such a blessing to go home at the end of the day and feel good about my day.  I love knowing that in some way, I helped someone through a difficult experience.   My co-workers are also my friends.  We consider ourselves a work family.  We often get together outside of work.

The people who I love

Family is very important to me.  I am vey close to my family and love being with them.  My parents, sister, brother-in-law, nieces and I see each other several times a week.  My bother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew live out of state, but we see each other 3-4 times a year.  Being an aunt is my greatest joy!  I love being a part of my nieces’ and nephew’s lives.  I often attend their band concerts, choir performances,  dance recitals, and athletic events.

My friend, Amy and I have known each other since we were 13.  We love to try new restaurants.

Church is and always has been a big part of my life.  My family, friends, and I go to weekly church services.  Lunch at my parents’ home after church is a long-standing tradition.  We all participate in several mission projects throughout the year in our community and in other states.  Our church has wonderful children’s programs.  I can’t wait to teach my child about the love of God.

Home sweet home

I live in Oklahoma.  I grew up here and most of my family lives here.  I lived briefly in New York City and then for several years in New Orleans.  I always knew I would move back to Oklahoma to be close to my family.

My parents, sister, brother-in-law, nieces, and I all live within 3 miles of each other.  We spend a lot of time together.  I have many aunts, uncles, and cousins who live nearby.

I live in a college town.  It is a great community!  We have a lot of wonderful art and science museums, athletic events, parks, festivals, and restaurants.

Meet my dog Waylon

Waylon is a very sweet golden retriever.  He loves 3 things above all else: being petted, chasing his balls, and eating!  Waylon and I love going for walks in my neighborhood.  My nieces, nephew, and friends’ children all adore Waylon.

My promises to you and your child

I promise to unconditionally love your baby and to raise him or her to be a kind, honest, and strong individual.

I will teach him or her to have a strong sense of self and to stand up for what they believe in.

I will introduce him or her to different activities and hobbies and help them find their passion in life.

I will raise them to know the joy and peace that comes from God’s love and to know the importance of helping others.

I know that being a single parent won’t always be easy, but I have a great group of family and friends who will help and support me.  They are all so excited to have another baby in the family!

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.  I wish you all the best in making this decision.  I know that raising a child is the most difficult job there is.  It is my hope and dream to raise a child.
