Hi! We’re René and Linz, from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We don't know what brought you here or what this journey has been like for you. But here you are. Here we are. You undoubtedly have many questions, and we've have just eight pages to give you a sense of who we are. It's not a lot, but let's work with what we've got and dive into it, knowing that at the end of this chapter is another—one filled with love, hope, opportunity, grace, and acceptance. So, here it is. Who knows, maybe these eight pages are the prelude to something truly remarkable.
Dear Birth Mother...
We met seven years ago while serving on the board of a charity and became instant friends. Our connection centered around a belief that our lives are meant to be lived in the service of others. Since then, we've been fortunate to fall in love, travel the world, and pursue many of our dreams together. We live on the west coast of Canada in Vancouver, British Columbia, with our 2 dogs, Onyx and Rito. Coincidently, we each grew up in blended families consisting of birth, step, foster and adoptive siblings. Blended families are all we've known. Our experiences were incredibly positive and have made us the strong, compassionate and curious people we are today.
Things That Make Us Happy
- Boating on the lakes in British Columbia
- Traveling the world
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Blizzards
- Tackling home projects
- Trying new recipes
- Writing music
- Oreo Cookie Blizzards
- Hiking with our dogs, Onyx & Rito
- Spending time outdoors in Vancouver
When we began talking about starting a family, adoption was an obvious choice. We could pursue more rounds of IVF, but we prefer to adopt. We don't believe a child needs to be biologically made by us. We are pursuing adoption in the US because we have family from the US and feel roots to the US as well as Canada.
A Look Into Our Lives
Often, you can find us out with Onyx & Rito, exploring the trails of Vancouver's many protected rain forests. Weekends are spent visiting friends and family in the lower mainland. At home, we're most likely watching movies, trying new recipes, BBQing, or tackling home projects. We recently built a stock-tank pool (Google it!) and an outdoor kitchen on our rooftop patio. One of the things we're most excited about is having overnight camp outs on the deck with our little one and teaching them about different constellations.
Our favorite vacation spot is (Isla Mujeres (which means Island of Women). It's a small island in the Caribbean that is 4.5 miles long.
About René, by Linz
René was born and raised on one of BC’s west coast islands with his parents, brothers and sisters (birth & foster). René’s household was anything but boring, which contributed to him becoming the adventurous, playful and driven creative he is today. He’s empathetic, outgoing and insatiably curious. René is an exceptional communicator that values emotional intelligence and vulnerability—three things that have helped him immensely in his career as a Partner and Creative Director at our successful creative agency.
René is most excited about helping our child discover their identity and purpose in this beautiful, challenging, complex world we live in. He will teach them about creative expression, courage, and resourcefulness through playing, adventure and tinkering, and is excited to see what kinds of tiny worlds we can create together in our living room and beyond.
- Build a recreational property on a lake
- Write and produce another music album
- Retire on an island
- Take a motorcycle trip across Asia

About Linz, by René
Lindsay grew up in BC with her parents and siblings (step, foster and adopted). Lindsay brings life to everyone around her. She is inherently positive, curious, motivated, and committed to growing and nurturing the strengths and passions of those around her. She values deep, meaningful connections with friends and family and is fiercely loyal. What drew me to Lindsay from the start and will make her an exceptional mother is how she balances incredible strength with transparency and vulnerability.
Lindsay looks forward to creating games and activities to make everyday tasks fun and engaging with our child; while teaching them about the many different cultures, languages and people of this incredible world we live. Lindsay is excited to focus her energy on welcoming the newest addition to our family.

We live in a spacious penthouse in a family-friendly neighborhood minutes from the sea wall, surrounded by parks, beaches, and community centers, of which we take full advantage.
We have a beautiful private rooftop deck where we sit around a fire and star watch in the evenings. During the day we enjoy our garden and stunning views of the North Shore Mountains. All three mountains are within a one hour drive from our home - Cypress, Seymour and Grouse Mountain. We also live 1 hour north of the US border.
Summers are spent in the Gulf Islands, camping in the interior, or hiking. Christmas, holidays, birthdays and family BBQs keep everyone connected and up-to-date on what’s happening in each others' lives. While not an expectation, we would be honored to include you in these precious moments/events, if at all possible.
We both love hiking the beautiful mountains here in British Columbia. There are thousands of trails in the province, many of which are less than an hour drive away.
Onyx is a 2.5 year old black lab adopted from Washington. 'Onyx' means protection shadow. She's an insatiable socialite that ensures humans and dogs-alike feel connected and loved. She has many cute personality traits and always has to say hello to everyone. Onyx loves to play ball and cuddle. She's inherently nurturing and looks forward to watching over baby sibling.
Rito is the latest (and unexpected) addition to the pack. We brought Rito home from Mexico during a recent trip and haven't looked back since. Like Onyx, Rito is a black lab (they could be twins), is calm and cool as a cucumber. At just 6-months old, this dog is as chill as anything, following us around without a leash and winning over the hearts of every being he interacts with (especially Onyx—they're best pals).
We've experienced firsthand the redemptive power of mixed families and share an understanding that family isn't restricted by genetics. Family is made up of the people you commit your life to.
Those you choose to love, regardless of background, differing beliefs, race or religion. Even more, we believe that, when done right, families are strengthened by diversity, not weakened. Our extended family includes parents, siblings (adopted, step, birth and foster), their partners and children. In total, we have a whopping 20 nephews and nieces, including multiple adopted children from various backgrounds. We stay connected to our relatives near and far. We have family in Australia, Mexico, Texas, Germany, Toronto, Manitoba, and right near home—both our parents and multiple siblings live in the Fraser Valley, just 40 minutes away. With siblings and grandparents, a short drive away, weekend family gatherings and hangouts are welcomed regular occurrences. Together, we go for walks, share meals, camp, and take full advantage of Vancouver's remarkable outdoors.
Adoption is in our family. Having both grown up in blended families, we believe in the power of chosen family and that it takes a village to raise a child. Our entire family is waiting with open arms.
FUN FACT: One of our favorite traditions is wearing matching onesies.
As parents, we believe in transparency, candor, empathy, curiosity, kindness and life-long learning. Here, your child will grow in a home where their interests, curiosities and beliefs are encouraged, celebrated and defended. They will have the opportunity to build and grow their strengths in a safe, nurturing environment. From an early age, we will focus on the important of self-discovery, strong communication, and other soft skills that will help the child build confidence and meaningful relationships with others around them. They will be encouraged to pursue their passions and will always feel safe.
Your child will grow up fiercely loved, surrounded by family and a welcoming community deeply committed to their health and growth. Together, we will explore, learn and grow. Your child will be given the opportunity to pursue their dreams and grow into the best possible version of themselves.
We would love to have you continue to be a part of their life, and we are committed to being as open as you are comfortable with. We would love to have the opportunity to talk to you about it.
