Choose a Family

Sanjay and Veena

Hello! We are Veena & Sanjay.

We first want to say “Thank You!”  We are so grateful that you are considering us!  Thank you for taking the time to read our profile.   Our words come from our hearts.  We have great respect for you and your courage moves us deeply.  You inspire us to be the best and most loving parents we can be to your child.  May your intuition and your love guide you to the right family and we hope it leads you to us.

Our dream to have a family means the world to us.  We have so much love to give.  We have been together for 13 years and love each other deeply.   We are each other’s best friends. It would be wonderful  to get to know you and learn more about you, and to share more about us.

How We Met & Life Today

Veena’s father was visiting a long-time friend in India who happened to be Sanjay’s uncle.  As the two friends shared family stories, they had a feeling that Veena and Sanjay would be a perfect match.  They decided to play matchmakers!

And their instinct was right!

At the time, Veena lived in Washington, D.C. and Sanjay lived in New York City.  Our first blind was over a phone conversation.  Both of us were so nervous!  We hit it off right away and began dating long-distance.  Veena was charmed by Sanjay’s zest for life, his creativity, and his strength of character.  Sanjay was hooked right away on Veena’s fun-loving attitude and compassionate heart. He loved her thoughtfulness and way of being.

Our love for each other blossomed even though at times we were separated by great distances—first between New York City and Washington, D.C. and then through Veena’s work in Central and South America.  Our long distance relationship thrived because we shared out thoughts and feelings, we listened, and respected one another.

After Sanjay proposed, we decided to move to Los Angeles and got married.  We made Los Angeles our home, and we love it!  We have created a beautiful community of family and friends, and are inspired by the work and service that we do in the world.

We have stood by each other during good times and sad times.  We have learned a lot from each other.  One of the saddest times for us was experiencing the loss of our son at 20 weeks of pregnancy.  We have been through a few early miscarriages but our son’s loss was the hardest.  We honor his sweet and precious short life by bringing love into all that we do and doing our best to live in the present moment.

About Veena by Sanjay

What’s amazing about Veena is that she’s nurturing, thoughtful, patient and generous—always willing to go the extra mile to help.  I am a better person with Veena in my life and I will do anything for her.  I feel cared for and supported in so many ways by her.  I love her deeply.

Veena is the love of my life, and we have a lot of fun together.  She is comfortable with people from all walks of life.  Connecting with people inspires her.  She believes that relationships are one of the most important things in life. Veena comes from a diverse culture background that enriches my life every day. She is of Indian descent and grew up in Panama and is fluent in English, Spanish, and conversant in her mother’s native language of Sindhi.  I really feel that her exposure to many cultures from a young age gives her a bigger picture of the world and helps her empathize easily with others.  I’m impressed at how quickly she can have meaningful conversations with people she just met.

We talk a lot about traveling with our family and Veena hopes to share her enthusiasm for travel with our child.   For her, traveling is about new experience, stepping out of comfort zones, and personal growth.

She has always had a desire to make the world a better place and to inspire people to live more fulfilling lives.  I see this in all she does.  With her siblings, she is the peacemaker in the family.  She has worked on projects in Central and South America to improve the lives of women.  Today she is a free-lance grant writer for community organizations and is currently training to be a life coach.

Veena is a great aunt and she loves hanging out with her nieces and being part of their lives.  It’s fun the have them visit us in Los Angeles! We love having the house full of kids.  Her family describes her as compassionate, trustworthy, positive, and supportive.

Ever since she was a little girl, Veena loved to read—the longer the book, the better!  After Veena and I got married we moved into our new home and I would often joke about the books that were everywhere! Veena has a curious mind and has a passion for life-long learning.  We both place great value on education and will support our children by creating fun opportunities for learning.

Veena loves to dance! She has been encouraging me to take a salsa dance class with her. I can already see her dancing salsa, Bollywood, or twirling with our child in the middle of our family room on a lazy afternoon.  When I think of Veena as a mom, my heart overflows.

About Sanjay by Veena

I adore Sanjay.  Our relationship is solid and we are so connected.  He always sees the good in me, and his acceptance of every side of me is complete.  I feel confident and secure when I am around him.  I am so grateful to have him in my life.

Sanjay’s Favorites

Sports! Lakers and the Barcelona Soccer Team *  Dark Chocolate * Watching Movies with Veena * Thanksgiving * The Color Blue * Hawaii * Spring and Summer * Tennis * Improv Comedy * Walking in the Rain

He is my best friend and my truth-teller and he always has my back.  He meets every challenge in life with strength and integrity.  He has a good instinct about people and life and brings honesty, strength and clarity in his daily interactions.  I adore the little boy in him and the tender side that I see when he plays with the kids in our family and circle of friends.

My family loves him too!  He is always there to help out my siblings.  To my nieces, he is their beloved Uncle Sanjay!  They love to joke around with him and play games.  When it comes to serious time, they open up to him and share their problems, and listen to his guidance.

On the days that I cook (which is often), Sanjay is in charge of the dessert. He loves dark chocolate. For him, it’s one of life’s simplest pleasures.  When we have people over for dinner, he’s in charge of the barbeque.  His caring nature and his sense of humor makes all of our guests feel special and right at home.

Sanjay loves sports!  Growing up, he swam competitively for India and competed in India, Italy, and the US.  Friends come to him when they want to fine-tune their strokes.  He’s has also enjoyed coaching girls and boys in basketball and soccer.  He’s a caring and talented coach.  He is a big tennis fan and we often go to the annual tennis championship in Palms Springs, California.  He’d love to share his enthusiasm for sports with our child.

Sanjay’s career path in the entertainment field shows his creative passion. Expressing himself as a working actor invigorates and energizes him. Performing in front of the camera is definitely an artistic high!  He has taken on roles in movies that have been showcased in the Sundance Film Festival and has been on television shows and international commercials.

He also directs youth in theater performances including musical and plays, and teaches drama to elementary and middle school children at a private school. The kids respond to his creative energy, positive outlook, and amazing imagination.

His kindness and compassion knows no boundaries.  Recently, when my nieces were in town visiting, we came across a bird that appeared to be injured and was lying in the middle of the road unable to get up.  Other people passed the bird by, but Sanjay stopped and gently pick up the bird and set it under a tree.  The bird was able to steady itself up and safely flew away.

Sanjay is amazing with kids and I am so excited to see Sanjay as a Dad! He inspires me every day.

Our Family and Friends

Our family lives all over—in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, as well as overseas in Indian and Panama.  We are very close and visit each other often.  No matter the distance, we are there for each other.  Our children will grow up with a loving extended family and a caring community of friends and will be able to travel to spend time with them.

Our nieces are a big part our lives. Usually we all meet in Panama in December and enjoy a tropical-style Christmas.  This year, our family surprised us by planning a trip to LA. We had a blast at Universal Studios and drove to Palm Springs for a couple of days.  The girls had fun playing miniature golf for the first time.  One year, we all flew to Orlando and spent 3 days in Disneyland to celebrate the 16th birthday of one of our nieces.

A fun and new tradition is the festival of Holi—it’s a colorful festival that celebrates the beginning of spring.  This year we went with close friends and their kids to the Holi Festival at a neighborhood park.  We played and ran around and threw bright red, green and yellow powder on each other.   The kids had a great time with Uncle Sanjay and Aunty Veena.

Our Home and Community

Your child will have a fun, loving home with two parents who love each other.  We have created a family-work life balance that allows us to give our full attention to the child that is placed in our arms.  Veena is grateful to have the opportunity to be a stay-home Mom.  Being able to speak several languages has been a great experience for us and we see ourselves sharing that with our child too.

We will deal with the good and the bad as it comes up. It’s not about being perfect but loving our child and loving each other and our family no matter what.  We will help your child build their natural confidence and find their unique path in life.

We have a 3-bedrrom comfortable and cozy home, with a large backyard for lots of room to play, in a lovely family-oriented neighborhood in Los Angeles. Our home is a place where we can retreat to reenergize or open it up for community and family.  We live near beaches, mountains, and scenic valleys. The local farmer’s market is minutes away.
