Choose a Family

Todd and Sarah

Hello! We are Todd and Sarah from Washington State!

Dear Birth Mother: We can’t imagine the difficulty you must be facing in considering right now. Selecting the family in whom you will trust your child’s future is a tremendous responsibility. We know that you love your baby a great deal and it is your love that’s led you to consider adoption.  We have been happily married for 10 years. We hoped to start a family but after trying every fertility procedure available we had no success at all. Adoption has been very special to our family as we adopted our daughter Melody in 2014 and our son Jacob in 2016.  We chose independent adoption because of the many options available to you as the birth mother and us as the prospective parents. It also allows for us to consider any preference you might have during this process, and create a trusting relationship between us.  We have always wanted to have a large family and are excited to continue growing our family through the gift of adoption!

As a Family, We Like:

  • Nature walks
  • Swimming
  • Driving to see Christmas Lights
  • Going to the Zoo
  • Family dance time
  • Feeding the ducks at the lake
  • Watching the sunset over our pasture
  • Going to Grandpa and Grandma’s house
  • Wrestling with dad
  • Trains and Ferries to Seattle

Getting to Know Us (By Todd)

We have known each other since before we were teenagers! Sarah’s brothers and I played basketball together a lot. Sarah and I had a few conversations, but didn’t spend much time together. That all changed when our church’s youth groups started playing volleyball. We both loved playing, and got to know each other on the court surrounded by friends.  A couple of years later we both attended a one-week church camping trip and spent a lot of time together. I’d always thought she was great (and gorgeous), but that’s when I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. The night I asked, I was so nervous, but I got it together long enough to ask for her hand, and she said yes!

Meet Sarah

About Sarah, by Todd: Sarah has a great sense of humor, and doesn’t take herself too seriously. She is an amazing conversationalist, bringing warmth and sincerity to everyone she encounters.  Sarah is a wonderful mother, not only to our own children, but to all of the children we know. Since we’ve been married, our nieces and nephews and friend’s children have spent nights and sometimes weekends at our house many times. She really enjoys making chocolate chip pancake breakfasts with them, and engaging them in conversation.

A Little About Sarah: I was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington with my (6) brothers and (2) younger sisters – totaling 9! Being the middle child I had the best of both worlds growing up. I was also the oldest daughter and with that came some responsibility. Both my youngest brother and sister had special needs that gave me experience and a realistic view of what caring for children means.  Being a stay-at-home mom is really my dream come true. I have been around children my entire life and I usually have a few strays at my house. Our house is laid out in such a way that the kids and I can be together while they are playing and I am folding laundry or making dinner etc… although what they really like is being a part of what I am doing. Melody and Jacob both love folding towels with me and unloading the dishwasher… they have their own spray bottles, filled with water, for helping me clean!

Meet Todd

About Todd, by Sarah: I have loved Todd for as long as I can remember. He is a great listener and is very compassionate. In our ten years of marriage he has nurtured and cared for me through sicknesses and has helped me know that no matter what comes our way, he will always be there for me and with me.  Todd is an attentive, patient, and calm dad and really enjoys our children for who they are. One of Todd’s best qualities as a dad is that he makes everything a game. Our kids love helping to clean up: unloading the dishwasher, clearing the table after dinner, folding towels… because they know dad will make it fun.

A Little Bit About Todd: I grew up in Olympia, Washington. I was very athletic and we enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, and football with the other neighborhood kids.  At 17 I worked part time at a design/build company that specializes in remodeling commercial spaces. I really enjoyed working with my hands and being active all day. After high school I was hired full time and am now a production superintendent training other people. I find this to be very rewarding.  I love being a dad. Every day, no matter what kind of day I’m having, coming home to Sarah, Mel, and Jake is the highlight. Sitting down for family dinners and hearing Melody’s stories and seeing Jacob’s “creations” never gets old.   Our weekends are usually spent on some exploratory adventure and I’m really looking forward to adding a third child to the mix. Seeing Jacob and Melody’s personalities take shape is breathtaking; I can’t wait to see them with another sibling.

It Takes a Village

The Dynamic Duo, Melody & Jacob: Melody is a bundle of energy and excitement. She loves music, singing and dancing; but her favorite thing by far is socializing. Jacob is quite a tease, we can see his sense of humor evolving already. He enjoys puzzles and fixing things with his toy toolbox.  Watching Melody and Jacob  interact with other children and babies has really made adopting a third child exciting for us as a family, and knowing that they will have adoption as a common bond makes it all the more special.

Our Families: We both come from larger families, Sarah has 8 siblings and Todd has 4!  Sarah’s brother and his family live a few minutes away. We see them throughout the week to watch sports or for dinner. Sarah’s dad and mom live about 30 minutes away and own a large piece of land that the rest of her family lives on. There are 22 grandkids so far and three of the kids aren’t even married yet! When we all get together it is crazy, and we love it!  Todd’s dad and mom live here in Olympia. They have quite the wildlife in their back yard feeding squirrels and many kinds of birds – our kids love it! Todd’s siblings are in different places in the States and we like to stay in touch through photo streams.  Our family is very supportive of us adopting again and can’t wait to welcome another child into the family!

Our Home and Closing Thoughts

Home Sweet Home: We bought our first home in the summer of 2012, in a quiet neighborhood in Olympia, tucked away from the busy streets. With three bedrooms, a den and a very open living space we have plenty of room for our family and entertaining.  Across from our front yard is a 5 acre field, surrounded by evergreen trees, with a little area for flying model airplanes. The kids love going out to watch the airplanes and run around in the field. There are also horses across the street from us that Melody has named Chocolate and Strawberry!  We have a raised flower bed and grilling patio in the back yard and Melody has her own little vegetable garden. The kids really enjoy playing outside in the dirt and getting to pick vegetables and flowers.

Thank You! We understand this process can be overwhelming so we wanted to thank you again for taking the time to read our letter and go through our profile. We hope that by learning more about us we’ve piqued your interest, and a foundation of trust and respect has begun between us.  Having adopted two children already has just established our desire to have a family. We feel blessed for the opportunity to adopt a third time, and can see so clearly that we are the lucky ones.
