Choose a Family

Travis and Sonja

Hi!  We are Travis and Sonja!  We are a happily married couple living in Texas!

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us.  We are so happy that you are considering us as an adoptive family for your baby.  We promise to love unconditionally and provide every opportunity we can to allow him/her to become the best they can be.  We promise to play, laugh, protect, nurture, care and be supportive in whatever they are passionate about.  We want you and your child to know that adoption is an act of love, bravery, and selflessness.  We hope that this information will help you learn a little more about us and who we are as a couple.  We wish you the very best in making your decision.

Our Story

We have been married for 5 wonderful years and have grown so much together.  We met when Sonja was working at a restaurant during college.  Travis, and Air Force Veteran, had just come back from being stationed in South Dakota and was looking for a part time job.  Sonja noticed on his application that he lived near her parent’s house.  A few weeks later, one of Sonja’s friends invited her to a karaoke event.  Her friend said that she had been before and there was a good looking guy who was also a great singer.  Sonja went and she and Travis locked eyes while he was singing.  We started talking and have been inseparable ever since.

Sonja Will Be Such A Great Mom

Sonja was born in South Africa and that experience, plus growing up later in the United States, had been wonderful.  I’ve learned so many things about other cultures and it makes me very understanding of everyone around me.  In my free time, I love spending time with Travis, our dogs, and our friends.  Travis and I enjoy cooking together, even though he was kicked out of the kitchen for a little while.  He tried to make me a nice dinner when we first met, and managed to turn minute rice into a mess.  He has slowly redeemed himself and now makes mouthwatering meals (with my help of course).  The past year has been a whirlwind.  Travis and I found out that I had ovarian cancer and luckily caught it early.    We did have to endure several surgeries and chemotherapy, but I am happy to say that I am a healthy cancer survivor.  My mother and I bought wigs together and she shaved her head to support me.  I happened to not lose my hair, but the gesture was great and she looks very pretty with short hair.  The journey has taught me so much.I learned that I am stronger than I ever could have imagined and I’m very positive.  Travis is and always will be my rock, and I couldn’t imagine going through life without him there by my side.

Travis Will Be Such A Great Dad

I am an Air Force Veteran and was enlisted for 6 years.  I was deployed twice in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.  I love to sing, and I’ve auditioned for American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and The X-Factor.  I’m very handy around the house, and I like to take a shot fixing things on my own before calling someone.  I very much enjoy firing up the grill and cooking for friends and family.  I’m also an avid sports fan.  Aside from being a sports fan, I also play several sports including golf, watersports, and baseball.  I enjoy being outdoors, and love to camp and fish.  I think Sonja will be a great mother because she is very loving, caring, and selfless.  She’s very family oriented, and very close with her parents and brother since they moved to the United States when she was younger.  She puts the needs of others in front of her own, and is an overall wonderful person.  I take a lot of pride in everything I do, whether it’s my actual job, or things around the house.  My favorite thing in the world is being Sonja’s husband, and building our life together.

Just For Fun

We love to travel!  Every year for our anniversary we enjoy taking a week-long vacation to the beach.  This year we went to Costa Rica and had a fantastic time!  We were able to go on a boat tour where we saw dolphins and landmarks along the Costa Rican shore.  We tried SNUBA for the first time which was a little scary at first, but once we got the hang of it we saw some amazing fish.  We also went to St. Lucia this year for a wedding and got to see all of St. Lucia on a helicopter ride.  We love going to new places and experiencing different cultures.  Much of Sonja’s family still lives in South Africa, and we are planning a trip there, too!  On the weekends we enjoy handing out with friends and family.  We also like to go to sporting events.  We still enjoy having date nights together.  We like to catch up on shows that we both love and spend time with our dogs.  We also love the outdoors and enjoy camping and fishing.

Our Furry Friends

We have three wonderful dogs.  Ranger, our first dog, is a hound mix.  We nicknamed him “Monkey” because he’s always getting into things.  He once chewed a hole in his dog bed and crawled in and got stuck.  Daisy is our lab mix.  She likes to let us know when she wants to cuddle and sometimes prances around like a pony.  Kinsler is our shepherd mix.  She’s the sweetest dog and constantly needs attention.  All of them know the word “walk” so we are careful not to say it until we are ready because they get very excited.

Home Sweet Home

We live in Cross Roads, Texas.  We have a lovely two story home with a game room and a Man Cave for Travis.  It is a growing community, and we’ve met many great people.  We have our neighbors over for cookouts, and we’ve become great friends.  The community has several parks, trails, and pools so there is always something to do whether lounging at the pool, going fishing in the pond, or going on long walks or bike rides.

Love Makes a Family

Travis has two younger brothers.  Each of his brothers are married and both have one child.  His parents live about 45 minutes away and we see them often.  His aunt also lives close by and we enjoy spending time there in her pool.  Sonja has one older brother.  Her parents live about 5 minutes away.  We spend each Sunday afternoon with them and enjoy family dinners together.  We have several close friends near us and we enjoy cooking at home with them, or going out to sporting events or dinner.  Family and friends are very important to us, and we love having everyone we love so close by.

Family Traditions

  • Opening presents on Christmas Eve
  • Attending the last home game of the Texas Rangers each season

Some of our Thoughts

We have always wanted to have children and are so excited to be able to adopt.  We want to nurture our child and give them every opportunity to grow and experience new things.  We had many opportunities in our lies to travel and try new things and we want the same things for our child.  We want them to experience other cultures, see sights around the world, and be successful in whatever their dreams may be.  We will always have honest and open conversations and will support their ambitions.  We will teach them things that we have learned throughout our lives such as responsibilities, kindness, empathy, and compassion.

One Last Thank You

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us!  We hope that this has given you more insight as to who we are as a couple.  We are so excited to take the next step in our journey and know that we will provide a loving and supportive environment filled with laugher and happiness.
