Hello from St. Helena, California! Thank you for taking the time to get to know us! We understand this decision is monumental. It takes a huge amount of courage to do what you are doing. It is an incredible act of selflessness and bravery; we have nothing but respect for your choice! We hope we will get the chance to get to know each other and can ease any worries you may have; we are here to support you through this. We both want the same thing, and that is to provide a loving home for your child.
We have always wanted to adopt, but after discovering we can’t have children of our own we knew adoption was truly meant to be!
We both know that families are what you create, and that love and support is the most important thing.
We first met working at a winery together in 2013, we instantly connected over movie quotes, life philosophies and our love of food and travel. We were engaged after only 4 months of dating! They always say when you know you know - it’s cheesy but in our case it’s true. We have been married 9 years now!
We have a mutual love of film, travel, food and wine. Travel has been a big part of our life, we specifically love exploring different cultures through food. When we are not traveling we enjoy yoga, hiking with the dogs, farmers market visits, and cooking. Our recent cooking obsessions include Moroccan Tagines, Paella parties, and lots of pasta!
When Geoff was younger he went on two trips abroad, orchestrating sports-based summer camps with Russian orphanages a few hours east of Moscow, planning tournaments, talent shows, and even a midnight dance party with glowsticks which the kids absolutely loved. These experiences greatly shaped his viewpoint from a domestic one for an international one.
Mark Twain wrote that ‘travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness.... Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime’. We tacitly understand this and aspire to connect our future child to the greater world and all of its beauty and mystery.
I was raised in Los Gatos, California. Early on I discovered my love for dance. I moved to New York straight out of High School to continue dance training and pursue Musical Theater. I wound up finding a second passion ...for wine. I obtained my wine certification and worked as a sommelier in high end restaurants before eventually moving back to California. Luckily, my parents were always supportive of all my passions and I am forever grateful for that! I consider my time in New York as a makeshift college experience. It definitely informed a lot of who I am and provided a wider lens on life. I attribute my adoration for travel and interest in other cultures to my time there.
Alex radiates happiness and positive energy, always looking to assist others and to make their lives more enjoyable. Her passion for travel, cooking, and homemaking is unmatched, and I can’t wait to parent alongside her. She is always curious and seeking to try new things, be they recipes or countries to visit (I think I get about 100 new food / travel memes sent to me daily through Instagram, each more unique and beautiful than previous) and I know this will translate into a passion for teaching and learning with our future child.
I grew up in Penngrove and then moved to St. Helena when I was 10. I always enjoyed playing outside - baseball was my favorite sport until I started wrestling in 7th grade. That led to my college scholarship in Pennsylvania where I learned so much from my coaches - more about life than about wrestling, but all through the lens of that sport. One learns a lot about their ability to overcome obstacles when you have to make weight regularly and compete directly against another human being. Seeing my coach’s coaching, and parenting style, has made me personally excited to raise a competent, loving, courageous child with my life partner.
Geoff is going to be an amazing dad, He has always shown such ease around kids. I am certain he will be loving and fun, but won’t sugar coat realities. He is a strong man with an incredible sense of morality, ethics and personal ethos. He is also truly a child at heart! He is unwavering in his support of family and friends whenever they need it; he really is a loyal and lifelong friend to many he meets.
Geoff has several tattoos, the locations of which are as symbolic as the artwork. On his arm is a Star of David with the word ‘shalom’ inscribed in Hebrew, representing the strength he finds in his Jewish ancestry. On his back a depiction of the archangel, Michael, triumphing over evil, representing a personal belief that good will always win out. On his left calf a Scorpio symbol, indicative of the attitude of staying grounded yet able to adjust to things quickly.
Alex has spent every summer growing up since she was born at their family’s lake house in Northern Michigan. The old cabins have been in the family for generations - but we also own several other properties around the lake. This is a very special place to our whole family - so many memories spending time up there cooking, swimming, taking boat rides, playing cards around the campfire, visiting local farms and islands. We can’t wait to make many more memories with our future child here!
Our home is at the end of a quiet, low traffic street near a world famous hospital, but also just 5 minutes from St. Helena, a culinary and farm focused community full of beautiful vineyards.
In addition to being surrounded by natural beauty we are close to Sacramento and San Francisco, both only a short drive away. We travel down to Los Gatos and Los Angeles often to visit our in laws and extended family, taking in everything from small towns to beach communities.
A lot of love sweat and tears went into remodeling our 3 bedroom home in St. Helena - it is certainly a labor of love! With a big kitchen, fireplace, two yards and a garden we really love spending time at home. Geoff is often found tending to his heirloom tomato garden, and Alex her extensive rose and Peony collection, and our yard space permits playtime with the puppers / space to grill & chill.
We have two sweet doggos: Dude, our goofy chocolate lab, named after one of our favorite movies, The Big Lebowski. He definitely abides. And our sweet King Charles Cavalier, Gracie. She is a little ball of love and wiggles.
Alex’s extended family are very tight knit. She has a younger brother, two uncles and their kids! In addition to her parents and Grandparents. Family is very important to us, and Christmas is a big deal! We go all out! Each year the whole family travels to our family lake house in Northern Michigan. It’s a tradition she has been lucky enough to experience her whole life, and we can’t wait to share that with our future child.
Alex’s family we are particularly close with and will definitely have a big role in our future child’s life. We look to them more are best friends. Her grandparents and parents instilled a very strong sense of family unit that is very special.
One of the many attractive things about Alex for me is her sense of family togetherness. My family isn’t so close, and her family has shown me nothing but love and support from day one. You should see my stocking at Christmas...
Thank you for taking time to consider us. We know you have a tough decision ahead, but whatever decision you make, we know it will be the right one for you and your child.
