Hi! I’m Carolyn from Sierra Madre, California. I’m Carolyn and I am beyond excited for the opportunity to be considered as the adoptive mother of your child. I live in Sierra Madre, California, just a few blocks away from my parents and my childhood home. I’ve always wanted to be a mom and since I was a young child I’ve known that creating a family can be more than genetics. The traditional path to motherhood has not been in the cards for me, but the desire for a family and to raise a child has never changed. I want to take my experiences, relationships and love and channel it into parenthood to provide a life that is full of stability, fun, and an unshakable sense of self. With the backing of my incredible family and friends, I would be honored to take on this journey with you!

I’ve always loved kids and know that being a mom is something that I was meant to be. Growing up one of my good friends was adopted, so I was exposed to the concept quite young. As I grew up the idea stuck with me and I knew that even if I were to have my own children I would still want to expand my family through adoption. Now in adulthood, the traditional method for having kids has eluded me, but the dream of adoption has not. And now I am hoping to make my dreams of motherhood come true. I am beyond excited to take on this adventure!

Three of the most important things in my life are my family, my friends, and a good education. My family is very close. My parents and brother all live nearby and I am lucky to be able to spend time with them regularly. Their unwavering support has allowed me to become the person I am today. My friends are incredible people. They are a collection of accomplished, bright, and genuinely kind individuals, who continuously make my life more fun and interesting. I am so grateful that they are in my life. As for education, my grandfather always said, “You get old when you stop learning” and I truly believe that. Whether it is watching the news, reading a book, or even listening to a podcast, there is always something to be learned and then taken with you into the world. I am so excited for this phase of life. The chance to grow and learn, while teaching your child how to be the best person they can be is thrilling.

I’ve always been the “fun aunt”, full of endless energy and so many ideas for activities and learning. Being able to take that enthusiasm for life and a boundless sense of love and pass it on to my kids has always been a dream. I want to parent through experiences, through fun, and through setting an example of what it means to be a good person. I have never been described as boring. Anyone and everyone in my life will tell you that I am an extrovert and have an unbreakable spirit. A motto that I try to live by is “everything that is meant to be will be, so you might as well enjoy the ride”.

I have the privilege of having a lot of kids in my life. I love traveling to see them and hanging out with them. My friends know their kids are always welcome at my house and any invitation for them is also an invitation to their little ones. Whether it is going to a museum, playing video games, watching the Taylor Swift Eras Tour on Disney+, going to the park, picking strawberries or just simply existing in their orbit, it’s always the most fun.

I am an architect! I have been fully licensed in the state of California since 2018. The projects I mainly work on are multi-family residential. I am really fortunate to love what I do and work at an office that is so flexible. Currently, I work from home 2 days a week but if I have a personal matter my boss is incredibly understanding. There are a couple people in the office who have kids and work modified schedules to accommodate school runs and child care needs.

Sierra Madre is nestled up against the San Gabriel Mountains. Hollywood, Disneyland, and the Pacific Ocean are all a car ride away. There is always something going on. Whether it’s the beach, an outdoor movie or concert in the park or a farmers market, we are spoiled for child friendly activities. I love this area so much, growing up my grandparents each lived 10 blocks away (in opposite directions). On any given day we are able to walk to the park, or to the community pool during the summer, and around the block to see friends. I loved it so much that during the pandemic I moved back from where I had been living in Orange County, California. Now I live 3 blocks from my parents and my childhood home. We are lucky to be included in the Pasadena Unified School district. Our neighborhood school is called Sierra Madre Elementary and it is right down the street. It has incredible parental involvement and a heavy focus on the arts. It also happens to be the elementary school that I went to and where my mom currently teaches.

If you have ever seen the show Gilmore Girls, I live in a real life Stars Hollow. Sierra Madre is the quintessential small town that happens to be on the outskirts of Los Angeles. It’s a mile and a half wide with no stop lights. We have a scarecrow contest and a costume parade at Halloween, a community Easter egg hunt at Easter. Christmas time we have a festival and Santa Claus at the fire station. Summer brings concerts in the park and a Fourth of July Parade.

My family is amazing! My parents have been married for 38 years and I have an older sister and a younger brother. They are bursting with excitement at the idea of another grandchild/niece/nephew. We are a close knit bunch. We regularly spend time locally and also vacation together when possible. We have a shared love of road trips and holidays. Growing up we would go on road trips every summer in an RV and it led to a really strong loving family unit. We once drove from California to New York and back. For holidays we go all out. My parents cover their lawn with inflatables every holiday and I always have 2 Christmas trees.

I am so fortunate to have a large and supportive friend group. Together we have a book club, watch Formula 1 races, participate in a Great British Bake Off fantasy league, go to flea markets on the weekends, and so much more. Some of them have kids and are my sounding board. They provide advice when I ask for it and are giving moral support as I take this journey. Some of my friends are childless by choice, but they are so excited to have a niece or nephew in the crew and to see me become a mom.

You love your kid whole heartedly and do what you can to raise them to be a good person. I will listen to them and treat them with respect. I want to help them succeed and support them when they fail. I will do my best to impart wisdom when I can and surround them with adults I trust so they have somewhere to go when my wisdom isn’t enough. I will fill our home with laughter and fun, and say no; even when yes would be easier. I will present choices and opportunities so they can learn who they are and become who they want to be. I will encourage them to grow into a person who is confident with their place in the world, and be there to hold them when life gets hard.

While so much of this process will be new for all of us, I will work hard to create an environment that celebrates who your child is and where they come from.
