We are Joey and Mike from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We hope this profile gives you a bit of an insight into who we are and our hearts.
Though we wish we could chat with you face to face, we hope that you can hear our hearts through our words. We can't imagine what you are feeling right now as you read this. While you carefully search for what you feel is right for you and for your child, we pray that you are given a peace and confidence in whatever it is you decide.
We have known since early in our relationship that we wanted to expand our family through adoption. It's difficult to explain but we felt this is what we were meant to do. It is one of the greatest honors anyone can possibly receive, to be trusted with raising and loving a child. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to provide a loving, nurturing, and fun environment with thriving relationships.
We met in early 2011 when Joey’s roommate took her to a church event where Mike was also attending. Even though Mike tried to tease Joey about one of her tattoos, there was immediate chemistry between us, but we didn’t make it “official” until that December. On our 2-year dating anniversary Mike proposed at a holiday light up night at our local amusement park while Christmas carols played in the background. We were married outside of a beautiful old Victorian house with all of our friends and family there.
We purchased our first home 4 years ago and have (mostly) enjoyed the challenge of making it our own, although neither one of us claim to be very handy. We would describe ourselves as being introverted extroverts. We really enjoy hanging out with our friends, but we are equally happy ordering a pizza and staying in for the night watching one of our favorite shows or having a fire out back. We live with our 7 year old dog, Birdie who we love dearly. We share a passion for listening to and writing music, animals, and being outside as much as possible.
I was born & raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by two hard working, selfless parents, along with my younger brother Corey and sister Kelly. Growing up, my family owned an RV that we would take to different campgrounds throughout the summer. In the spring and fall I played baseball and hockey. In my early teens my love for music took over and I spent all my free time going to shows, learning guitar and bass and playing in different bands.
After high school I went to school in Ohio to be certified as an Audio Engineer. After that I was lucky enough to be able to spend 4 years touring the country in a band with 4 other guys who would end up being some of my closest friends to this day. My other interests include watching the Pittsburgh Penguins, re-watching The Office or LOST for the countless time, discovering new music, and eating…just about anything. I cannot wait to have a child of my own to share some of our family traditions with and start our own.
I am the Production Director at a multi campus church overseeing the Audio, Video, & Lighting departments. I love that I get to incorporate skills and passions that I acquired from my touring days to create immersive experiences for people to partake in. One huge benefit of working at the church is that I get to control my own schedule and get to work from home at times. Our Church is extremely supportive of its employees and even offers onsite childcare for the days that I need to be in the building.
Mike is my best friend. I don’t just love him, I like everything about him. He is supportive, encouraging, levelheaded, kind, compassionate, and so much more. He has a dry but very funny sense of humor that keeps me laughing constantly. He is a driven and hard worker. Mike is a talented musician and I admire the way he spontaneously will pick up a guitar and write something on the spot. He challenges me in positive ways that make me think outside of the box. Mike cares deeply for others and wants to make sure they know that they are seen, valued, and loved. He will be an amazing father, friend, mentor, and protector to our future child. I cannot wait to see that happen.
I grew up as the youngest of a close family with 3 siblings, Josh, Jesse, Rachael. I loved playing in the woods as a child and as I got older, I played soccer and volleyball. I have sung for as long as I can remember.
I have a newfound love for house plants and have tried my hand at growing vegetables but have yet to be successful. Whether it’s music, clothes, or furniture I love all things retro. I am almost always one of the last to leave the dance floor at a wedding. My favorite foods are tacos and mac and cheese.
I have fond memories of baking with my mom and dancing to music in the living room and I hope to carry that tradition on. I look forward to exploring, creating, and playing with my future child.
I have two Associates Degrees in Specialized Technology. I first worked as a vet tech, with exotic birds at The National Aviary. I loved medicine but wanted to work with people so I went back to school for Ultrasound which I am able to do now at a pregnancy center.
Additionally, I sang on the worship team at our church and 2 years ago was offered a position as the assistant worship director. This job allows a lot of flexibility to work from home as well as having onsite childcare for when I do need to be there.
Joey has the ability to change the atmosphere of a room simply by stepping into it. She carries joy and laughter with her everywhere she goes and it’s contagious. I have never heard a single negative word spoken about her and she is always a source of positivity in her workplaces. Joey is incredibly hardworking and has a passion to help those in need. Not only is she smart, but she is very creative, has a passion for music, a beautiful voice, and a heart for God. Joey comes from a big family with 11 nieces and nephews and I have been able to see firsthand her love for her family and children. I truly could not ask for a better partner in this life. She is going to make a wonderful mother.
We live in a 3 story 3 bedroom house in a quiet suburb outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s an old original farmhouse of the area and we have put a lot of our heart and style into sprucing it up. One of our favorite features is the fenced-in backyard where we love to relax and sit by the fire. Our neighborhood has a small town feel with small businesses and sidewalks, but we are just 25 minutes from convenient shopping and downtown. We like to visit the local parks and walk its trails.
Birdie is a 7-year-old mix that we rescued as a very young puppy. She has tons of personality and quirks that constantly make us laugh. She is large but don’t let her fool you, she is just a giant puppy.
We are fortunate to have a great relationship with both of our parents and to have them live close by. Mike has a sister, Kelly, and a brother Corey, who also live close by. Corey and his wife Lauren have a daughter and are expecting a little boy soon. Mike’s parents, Mike and Nancy, own a camper by a lake that the whole family likes to use for a mini get aways.
Joey’s parents, Mark and Karen are also a short drive away. We always make sure to spend time with both families on holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter by sharing a large meal, opening gifts and just talking through the evening and maybe playing a game. Joey’s brother, Josh and his wife Heidi live in Atlanta with their 5 kids. Her other brother, Jesse and his wife Cydney have 2 kids and live in Kentucky. Joey’s sister Rachael, husband Jeff and their 3 girls recently moved to Kenya, Africa and plan to live there for another 2 years as missionaries. Every family gathering we are able to have a great time laughing together but we are also able to share in deep conversations. Our families are very supportive of us and are always there when we need them.
Our church friends are a lot like family too and we are happy to have some living just down the road that we can always call for a last minute hang. Joey also keeps in touch with some elementary school friends that schedule regular girls nights.
We are thankful that you have taken the time to learn more about us. From the moment we knew we wanted to adopt, we have been praying not only for our future child, but also for their birth parents. The strength and selflessness it takes to make an adoption plan for your child is incredibly admirable. We hope this book allowed you to see who we are and understand our hearts.
Sincerely, Mike and Joey
