Dear Birthmother,

Although I have no idea what you are going through right now, how hard this must be for you, and what you are feeling, I want to thank you for having the courage and love for your child to consider adoption and taking the time to read my letter and get to know me. I know you have a lot to think about now and over the next few months and want to offer my love and support, if you need me. I hope you are getting the love and support you need and deserve. I look forward to meeting and learning about you and welcoming you and your child in to my life. I hope to hear from you soon!

A Little about Karen

I love learning, reading, cooking, and sharing those experiences with others. Friends say that I am strong, loving, and patient. I like to set big goals for myself, and there is nothing

like the sense of accomplishment after working hard to achieve them. I love traveling and experiencing new places and people. I have a great life with both family and friends, and I look forward to one day having a family of my own. I am financially and emotionally secure and very ready to become a mother. I can’t wait to focus my love, time, and attention towards raising a happy, healthy child.

I believe laughter makes everything better! A friend was once surprised that I was laughing and running while playing soccer, I told them that if I couldn’t laugh and do things, I’d never get anything done, since I was always laughing!

Things I love to Do!

I am an avid traveler. I have been to 35 of the fifty states and want to visit all fifty states with my child. One of my favorite places to visit is San Francisco. I lived there for several years, and still have friends to visit. Every time I visit, there is something different, a new building, a new restaurant, a new hike to try. It is wonderful, since each trip is unique, even in a city that I have been to multiple times. I also want to visit all of the continents, most of which I haven’t. I want to show my child the world, literally, and let him or her see the places they study about in school, and experience it first hand!

I love the arts, museums, music, and theater. I can’t wait to take my child to visit the children’s museum and play in the kid’s area, adding my child’s drawings, collages, and sculptures to my walls. I want my child to experience music, and learn to play an instrument, he or she may love it or hate it, but at least they will try.

I also love sports, both watching them and playing them. I look forward to coaching tee ball or soccer, and going to a baseball game with my child, catching foul balls and running the bases at the end of the game. I’m sure it is hard to believe that someone living in Florida loves the snow, but I do, I can’t wait to teach my little one how to build a snowman, throw a snow ball, and ski down a mountain! I imagine winter trips up north and ski trips to the Rockies to play in the snow and drink hot chocolate!

My Work Life

I am a structural engineer, meaning I design buildings to stand up while an architect designs them to look pretty. I work for an engineering firm, we meet with the owner when they are still trying to decide exactly the building they want, from how many stories, to the interior layout, proceed to design the columns, walls, and floor, and remain involved until the construction is completed and the building opens. I watch buildings come to life. I love that I am able to make people’s lives easier and more efficient. I currently have a fairly flexible work schedule so there doesn’t need to be a lot of changes once my baby arrives. I can schedule meetings around my schedule and work from home when needed.

My Humble Abode

I live in Florida, right on the water. I can sit on my patio or the pool deck and watch the boats go by. I imagine teaching my child to sail on the Bay (once I can master sailing to teach my child). I live in a city, which I think this is a perfect location to raise a child, since walking to so many activities is possible. We can walk to the grocery store, park, library, and restaurants. I imagine sitting in the park eating ice cream and talking to our neighbors as they walk by. There is also a pool, tennis courts, and playground on the roof deck, always filled with children making friends and playing. Often after school there are informal pool play dates with children of multiple ages playing, I can’t wait until my child can join in the fun! Additionally, the ballpark, children’s museums, zoo, and beach are just a short drive away.

Meet my Family and Friends

I have two sisters, a brother-in-law, a nephew, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Everyone is awaiting another niece or nephew and cousin and can’t wait for the family to grow! Both of my sisters still live in the DC area, so my child and I will visit DC often to visit our family and see the sights of the Nations Capital. My extended family and friends are spread across the country, so we will have plenty of places to visit. My family often takes trips together, from a smaller group taking a cousin’s trip, or a family camping trip, to the entire family together for a reunion. My child will know everyone in the crazy family during our gatherings!

Growing up, my family had dinner together most nights and talked about our days, discussed (or argued) about world events, and played games; I want a similar experience for my child. I remember playing “20 questions” as a child and my dad chose a fire hydrant. When we asked if it was decorative of functional, he said it was decorative. This is still a family joke, that dad thought fire hydrants were decorative! I want my child to always reach for the stars, know there is nothing they can do to not be loved, and follow their dreams.

My Promise to You

I have wanted to be a mother my whole life, to love someone with my whole heart, and to teach someone everything that I have learned, both the good and the bad. My child will always come first in my life. He or she will have unconditional love, and I am dedicated to providing a safe, happy, and loving home for my child. I can’t wait to watch my child experience all of the “firsts”, from their first smile, their first steps, first words, first day of school, and everything that comes after! I want my child to have the confidence to handle anything that comes his or her way, the knowledge to make the best life choices they can, and the compassion to make their world a better place. I want him or her to find their passion, and I will do everything I can to support them every step of the way and make all of their dreams come true.

One Last Thank-you!

Thank-you for reading my profile and getting to know me! I can not wait until I am a mother and can share my life and adventures with a child! I will fill your child’s life with love, laughter, adventure, and fun! I can’t wait to get to know you and your child, and begin the journey.
