Hello! We are Melanie and Jameson from San Diego, California. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We know that whatever path you’re on right now took incredible courage to walk, and we are deeply grateful that you’re considering us to help raise your child. Becoming parents is something we have dreamed about for a long time, and the thought of growing our family fills us with more joy and excitement than we can put into words. We’ve prepared our hearts and our home for a child to love, and we want you to know that we would never take that trust lightly. As you read on, we hope you’ll get a real sense of who we are, what our life looks like, and the love we’re ready to give.

We’ve spent our whole relationship traveling the world, always chasing the next place we haven’t discovered yet, and somewhere along the way we realized the thing we wanted most was a child to share that sense of discovery with. Adoption wasn’t our plan B: pregnancy would put Melanie’s health at serious risk, so when we started talking about growing our family, we got excited about the child out there waiting to join us.

We met on Hinge five years ago, and our first date at a cozy cafe turned into hours of conversation. We loved each other’s whimsy, goofiness, intelligence, and free spirit right from the start, and we became best friends almost overnight, spending every day chasing new experiences together. A few years in, Jameson proposed at Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, one of the most beautiful places we’d ever seen. We eloped soon after, then celebrated with a traditional wedding so our family and friends could share in it too.

What strikes me most about Melanie is her emotional intelligence and empathy. She’s the most empathic person I know, and it shows in everything she does. She loves her friends fiercely, is incredibly selfless, and is the most dependable person around when things get hard. She has this strong mindset that doesn’t back down and she’s not afraid to use her voice and stand up for people who can’t. I deeply respect that about her.

As a parent, those qualities are everything. She’ll love our child with her whole heart and teach them not just about the world, but about themselves and their emotions. She’ll show them what it means to be kind, to be brave, to care deeply about people. She’s going to be an extraordinary mother, and I can’t wait to watch her become one.

Kindness defines Jameson, it’s the first word everyone uses to describe him, and it’s entirely accurate. His smile brightens any room he enters, and his love for people is genuine and deep. He makes everyone around him feel seen and truly cared for.

Beyond his warmth, Jameson is remarkably determined and driven. Over the years I’ve known him, I’ve watched him transform into better versions of himself repeatedly. He’s constantly working to improve who he is, and that genuine desire for continuous growth is exactly why I fall more in love with him every single day. It’s something I never thought was possible. He’ll be an incredible father because he leads with his heart and shows up fully for the people he loves. Our child won’t just have a parent; they’ll have someone who genuinely wants them to feel safe, seen, and deeply loved by someone who cares so deeply.

We enjoy adventures in all its forms and are always trying new things. We’ve explored over 30 countries and 20 national parks together, and can’t wait to bring a child along for the ride. We snowboard, hike, and visit the zoo so often we have a yearly pass. Our travels have also made us passionate advocates for conservation, and we love volunteering where we can to give back. At home, we keep things lively with weekly trivia nights, board games, and salsa and bachata dancing. We’re also true foodies, always hunting down new restaurants and farmers markets to explore together.

We live in San Diego, California, in a neighborhood that feels like the perfect mix of adventure and peace. Our home has a beautiful view of the islands off the coast, and on clear nights we can even see the SeaWorld drone show from our window. We have bird feeders we love to watch while winding down after a long day, and our place is cozy and full of life. We have board games stacked on shelves, plenty of room to move around, and space for all the experiences we want to share. The neighborhood is incredibly family-friendly. There are about 5 playgrounds within a 2-mile radius and 4 schools within a 10-minute drive. Our favorite spot is the new park just down the road next to a lovely coffee shop by the bay and we love grabbing something warm and watching the sunset over the water with Lani.

We rescued Lani six years ago, and she’s been our adventure companion ever since. She's a super mutt, the best kind of rescue, and there's nowhere we go that she doesn't come along: the beach, the mountains, road trips, even trivia nights at the patio bar. She's incredibly gentle with everyone she meets, people and other animals alike, and will do anything for a cuddle. Honestly, she's spoiled beyond belief, but she deserves it. We can’t wait for her to meet your child and show them that same unconditional love she gives us every day.

Melanie’s parents, Grandpa Flo and Grandma Mari, live nearby in Oceanside and get together with us regularly for family dinners, boating lessons, and spontaneous visits. Jameson’s mom, Grandma Liz, lives in Virginia but visits often and joins us for international family vacations. His brother, Uncle Liam, lives close by and has been such a help taking care of Lani when needed. While our child will have one uncle in Liam and no blood-related cousins, we have something just as special: a tight circle of close friends who are like family, including Melanie’s close friends Tiffany and Josefina, who are already thrilled to become honorary aunts. We truly believe family doesn’t have to be about blood, it’s about showing up for each other and surrounding our child with love from all directions.

We’re big believers in making memories together, and our traditions reflect that. Jameson’s family is the adventurous crew, so we tend to spend a lot of quality time with them. For Thanksgiving, we head to Virginia to visit Elizabeth (Grandma Liz) and feast on homemade meals. Christmas is our favorite and we rent a cabin somewhere in the mountains to spend the days exploring, hiking, and just being together. Every single year, we also plan an international family vacation as a group, which is our favorite tradition by far. Melanie’s parents visit us for Christmas at our home, and we’ve created this beautiful blend of traditions: half Mexican-inspired food celebrating Melanie’s roots and half English-inspired celebrating Jameson’s. It’s a melting pot of cultures, flavors, and family. This is exactly how we want our future child to experience the world.

We want to raise a child who is kind, curious, and brave. We’ll teach them to care for animals, people, and the world, and our goal as a family is to never stop learning. We believe in letting our child find their own path, supporting them along the way, and showing them that effort matters more than perfection. We also believe in balance: pushing them to be brave and resilient, while always making sure they know they’re deeply loved and safe. Most importantly, we’ll show up for them every day, through the big moments and the quiet ones, as the people who know, encourage, and love them unconditionally.
